“Great food charming service”

The whole experience was memorable, the staff and especially Joe made this a very enjoyable evening. Lovely intimate table we wanted the tasting menu but wanted one of the dishes on the a la carte menu this was not a problem. The chef came and explained the menu & his concept which was a nice touch, he also came back to ask if we had enjoyed the food. We did ! Nicely balanced menu all cooked to perfection . The service was worthy of a Michelin star restaurant , attentive funny & charming down to my husband being given a rose to present to me at the end of the meal. Really sorry we only had one night in Bangkok as we would have eaten there again.

“Splendid food in a relaxed atmosphere”

We went for the Red and Green Thai curries on the menu and were really delighted with our choice. Kudos to the chef.
Although a nice warm November evening, it was quiet sitting outside on the terrace with dinner by candlelight.
Would definitely return when in the neighbourhood.

“First Class”

Visited here on the last night in Bangkok and was not disappointed. We had a drink in the bar beforehand and was then greeted very politely in the restaurant and shown to a large table for 2 well prepared and looking inviting. The decor matches the hotel with that modern moody look of dark colours with a huge copper chandelier in the middle.

The only down side was the trouble from the last few nights has clearly kept people away as both north and south of the hotel there has been trouble, not that we have seen any of it.

Firstly we had an amuse bouche of avocado and prawn. This was OK but the overwhelming flavour was garlic which masked the rest of the dish. We also had a bread basket which contained a superb walnut roll and a cheese roll but the crispy bread at the back was questionable and the olive pastry (yes a cinnamon swirl but the cinnamon was replaced with olive) felt a bit like the chef was trying a bit too hard and produced something to make the place stand out without considering whether it was a good idea.

We had the snow crab and Iberico pork to start. Both were top quality. The snow crab wrapped in cucumber with mouse and an avocado jelly, while the pork had deep pork flavour with mushrooms and garlic crisps that were well cooked. The snow crab was one if the best starters I have ever had and worked so well with the other food on the plate that brought balance to the fishy flavour. My wife said the pork was her best ever starter, well balanced with bags of flavours that complimented one another.

Between the starter and mains we had a palate cleanser of lemon sorbet which was sharp and very refreshing.

For mains we had the lobster spaghetti and the wagyu steak. This is the third time I have had lobster and the first time I have enjoyed it. It went so well with a great spaghetti in arrabiata sauce that I just wanted more. The only complaint was the lobster still had some cartilidge in it which could have dented the experience had I not found it before eating. The steak was well cooked with lovely veg and my wife ordered the potatoes and rocket, both of which were very tasty, although I thought the potatoes could do with a little more salt. She said the steak was very very tasty and she could really taste the difference to a normal steak.

For dessert we had the chocolate pudding and the citrus tart. The tart was of the deconstructed kind with orange mousse and fresh fruit. Really really good flavours that cleansed the palate. The chocolate pudding was runny in the middle and came with a tasty salted caramel ice cream.

For drinks we had the Chilean Chardonnay which went well with the lobster but was a little too strong for the crab (my fault as I choose it).

The service throughout the meal was good and although deserted I thought the atmosphere was pretty good but I think it would be even better with a few more diners.

All in all a great meal, there were a few things mentioned above that could have been improved but this was the best meal we have had in Thailand and although expensive (8000b inc tip) it had two of the best courses we have ever had and is among the top 3 meals we have ever eaten. I would recommend a visit.

“Exceptional”

Eve was a treat at the end of our stay at the Hansar hotel. The staff were attentive and offered detailed, exceptional service (for example, they did not stack plates when clearing the table and offered the perfect pour of wine). The assistant manager, Joe, was fabulous and helped us choose the right dishes and wine pairings. He was very knowledgable and delivered a rose to our table at the end of our meal.

We enjoyed the scallops to start, a seafood risotto and the spare ribs cooked sous vide for 24hours. It was a wonderful dining experience we would recommend it to anyone.

Good spread with chef specialties. Love the attentive staff at this restaurant and how they made effort to recommend specialties based on our preferences!
