After arriving in Bangkok at 1am and giving the taxi the directions and map I had printed from there website and the driver confirming that he knew where it was, I stupidly took a little nap on the way there and when the driver said we were there and it was just down the alley we paid got out and proceeded to walk around in circles near Kahosan Rd where he had dropped us off looking at the map, but not finding our way. It is a 5-10 min walk from there, but you have to cross the main double road by the Burger King exit, not something we could figure out by 3am so we hired another taxi who tried the same trick, but we refused to get out and I dug out the hotel reservation so the driver could phone them which eventually got us there.

The rooms were very clean, the water hot, beds comfortable, and the room fridge and AC cold, which is all I ask of budget hotels. Other people could be heard moving around a bit going to rooms and in the courtyard so if you are an extremely light sleeper bring earplugs. Free breakfast was eggs, sausage?, bread and fruit, and coffee/tea/juice, and also one free computer/internet station we used in the courtyard. Easily in walking distance to Grand Palace, markets, reclining Buddha, Kahosan rd, etc. If you want to explore the rest of the city take a boat down the river to the last stop and hop on the skytrain and with the conection to the metro it can take you anywhere.

When taking a taxi back to the airport we arranged one from the front desk, but would be much cheaper to head out to the main street and flag one down.

I stayed there with 2 friends in a triple rom. The room was nice with an ok bathroom. We weren't expecting free Wifi so that was definitely a plus. Breakfast was adequate in the morning and the staff were friendly (although their English could do with a smll bit of work). It's a very central location and easy to get around.

Our main complaint was with the minivan company we requested to drive us to Siem Reap. As we had had a pleasant experience so far, we trusted in their judgement but we were very disappointed with the service we received. There were numerous additional costs we had not been told about and a long delay after we crossed the border into Cambodia. This seems to be a deliberately long delay as they try to sell you taxi fares to speed up your journey. After waiting in the blistering heat for your visa, an AC taxi looks very tempting. Despite the additional costs it still works out a relatively cheap journey by western standards, we just felt a bit cheated. 500baht for the bus, 25dollars for the visa, 10 dollars for the "fast queue", 5 dollars for photos that never materialised and 300baht per person for a taxi.

Hotel is fine for a few days, just don't trust their drivers.

Yes -- Feung Nakorn advertises itself on its location near the sights. It is indeed located in Old City, which makes it quite convenient to visit the Grand Palace and Main temples, but difficult to do much else. Very few restaurants or shops nearby, although the hotel does have their own (over-priced if you will) food. Stay closer to downtown where the locals are to experience the real Bangkok, and take a cab over to the Old City when you want to check out the impressive Wats (temples).

Cabs to the hotel: as many other reviewers have pointed out, cabbies don’t know where this hotel is. This turned out to be much more annoying than I thought it would be: 1) the map from the hotel doesn’t do its job: you’ll spend significant time hailing cabs and begging them to at least try to take you there. Most are confused that you want to go to that area in the evening since nothing is there but the sites 2) for the drivers that do agree to take you, I would estimate that 50% drive around extra to garner some extra baht for themselves. This ends up being really obvious when the trip somehow takes 15 minutes instead of 5 minutes, and you drive South for a while to get to the hotel instead of North.

A true boutique hotel with excellent customer service and professionalism. The hotel is within walking distance of many major Bangkok must see sites! The Grand Palace, the Royal Garden etc etc. The Manager, Alec is extremely efficient and I am sure the smooth running of the hotel and the happiness that generates from every single member of staff is due to the professionalism and care he obviously puts into his job.

The hotel itself is well designed (having been an old school and only recently converted) and each room is well decorated with new appliances, very comfortable beds and nice white linen and towels! They provide a bottle of water free each day when the rooms are cleaned. The bathrooms are a job by most Bangkok hotels, they are extremely clean and everything works! They provide shower gel and shampoo which both smell yummy! There is also a small fridge and a kettle with tea/coffee in each room.

The hotel provides breakfast which runs till 10am and they do have meals available at other times. Breakfasts are large - choice of eggs with ham and sausage with toast, fresh fruit and tea / coffee / juice. The lunch or dinner meals they provide are excellent with an onsite chef who seems to be able to whip up orders at the drop of a hat! There is a really nice bar in the garden which is in the smoking section of the outdoor area. The rooms are all non smoking but there are small chairs and tables outside each room with ashtrays if needed. These are cleaned regularly.

I can't sing the praises of this hotel enough! The staff really look after you, there is a 7 11 just down the road, you can walk to great places easily and its very well priced!

I will definately stay there again and will let my friends know about this place.

Thank you FNB for making my time in Bangkok so relaxed and enjoyable:-)

The service we received was prompt, friendly and efficient! All the staff, from the management to security, to cleaners, the chef and receptionist all seem to love their jobs. This makes such a difference to the atmosphere in the hotel. I enjoyed every evening we spent there. The rooms are spacious with a very private feel to them due to the ample, high level windows. The rooms (we stayed in twice in three weeks) are well presented, spotlessly clean and furnished with great quality furniture. The courtyard is well thought out. There is a fantastic garden area with a central fountain as the main feature. There is also a discreet bar area, with a tranquil pond, seating and sun loungers and a tiled area giving the feeling of space and light. This is all beautifully lit after dark.
The food is very fresh, good portion sizes and plates, tables, cutlery etc spotless!

The attentive management went out of their way to make us feel welcome, ensuring taxis were located quickly and informed of our destinations and basically making it as easy as possible to make the most of all the nearby sights and attractions. All in all, a perfect stay.

We spent three brilliant nights at Feung Nakorn Balcony. In is in the heart of the old city and within walking distance to the major attractions (Grand Palace, Khao San Road, the Flower Market etc) yet the place feels totally authentic and is located in an “untouristy” street. The rooms all open out on to a courtyard with fishponds and greenery – beautiful. The front of house staff were brilliant (ordering taxi’s / tuk-tuks for us, recommending activities, giving us wake-up calls, offering to keep some of our luggage for two months whilst we travel around the rest of South East Asia and directing us to the best restaurant we have eaten at thus far in our travels). The rooms were clean, spacious and very quiet – we sleep superbly throughout our stay here. We have no hesitation in recommending it!

I was being shown around BKK by a local Thai friend and her boyfriend. She is a wonderful person, very kind and wanted to take care of everything for me, so she phoned up front and asked for a room to be reserved for me.
She drove me there with her boyfriend, and upon arriving her boyfriend was parking the car while I walked in with her to ask about the room.
The manager behind the desk spoke quite rudely and abruptly to my friend, even though it was in Thai I could understand the mannerism, and consequent reaction of my friend. He then continued to be difficult and refused to let us see the room. My friend got very upset t and continued to confront the manager over the way he was conducting himself.
This went on for a considerable time and I was getting a feeling that something was a foot, even though they where conversing in Thai.
In the end I calmed her down as she was nearly in tears, and tried to end the whole matter.
Then when I spoke to her she explained that the manager had been insinuating she was a hooker and I was the client. When he later realised his assumption was totally wrong he refused to back down or apologise.
Shame as it is a nice place, but with a manager like that running it I can't recommend it.

Greeting from Feung Nakorn Balcony Room and Café’s Management

Hi my name is Thaya Managing Director of Feung Nakorn Balcony Rooms and Cafe. I am very sorry to learn of this incident and I had called for an immediate meeting with officers involved in this incident. They have been reprimanded for their action and had admitted their respond to your lady friend was rather short, simple but definitely in a polite manner. They both, manager and a front officer on duty, deny any sort of instigation that your lady friend was a hooker and my apology again if their respond or action would lead to this misunderstanding.

The refusal to tour other rooms other than the one we have reserved for you was declined because of the high occupancy and a lot of late check in that evening. We would like to request your kind understanding if we fail to provide satisfaction service. We have always received the nice and friendly staffs comments from our guests and definitely we would like to welcome you back the Feung Nakorn Balcony Rooms and Café and we would ensure you a very pleasant stay for your next trip in Bangkok.

Best regards,
Thanya
