I we t to Thailand with my sister to visit a friend. We arrived Dec 27 and left on the 31st so it was busy season but the hotel never looked or felt crowded. Location was fantastic. Easy walk to the Skytrain. I read some reviews that there are hotel tuk tuks waiting for you at the Skytrain but we never saw any. The walk is short to the hotel. You pass many restaurants and pharmacies, coffee shops and sidewalk food carts and bars so its a great time to get your bearings. The hotel is towards the end of the street and stands out because of its modern exterior.
Once you walk in the lobby its clean and cool. If you've ever stayed at a W and liked it then you will feel the familiarity here. Our room was originally a Double Chic, but after reading one review that someone posted about getting a room with a view to the bldg next door, i upgraded for a mere $125US (for three nights, total!!) to a better room more high up and with a view. Glad i did, the view was fantastic!
Make sure regardless of what room you get, you ask for a room on the right side of the hotel (if you are facing the hotel as you walk in). The rooms on the left have a building next door so you see windows and wall. The rooms on the right face away from the busy street, we didnt hear any street noise (we were on the 25th floor).
The room was clean, colorful and modern. Even with the upgrade the room felt a little small but served the purpose for us. Bathroom had outlet for electric shaver, and took standard two prong US and UK. You need a voltage converter though. I brought a flat-iron that could adjust voltage but I still thought it would catch fire it was making weird noises. The shower is huge. No bath. There is small space for hanging items and drawers for clothes, and there is a safe. The A/C worked beautifully.
In the main space there are plenty of outlets for your tablets and smartphones. You can dock your phone and play music while charging. TV was a flatscreen TV but even though amenities on the description say DVD player, it did not have one. Apparently you have to rent it. "Mini bar" had beers and water. Why pay when you get free bottled water daily which is nice.
We never went to the pool or XYZ their lobby bar, so I cant comment on that, but we did go to their rooftop bar with "panoramic" views. Great wine selection and delicious cocktails, the outdoor patio was relaxing and cool on the hot day, but the view was not as stellar. They have DJs play here and while we never stuck around for the DJ, but we heard a faint "untz untz" each night, which did NOT go on all night but I'm not sure where it was coming from. And we were the farthest room down the hall which is the back before you hit the exit stairs. Could've been the hotel DJ, the street bar, a bar, another hotel.. Who knows. Didn't bother us. We did have a issue the first night - we heard guys next door yelling and talking loudly. We called the front desk and shortly after the noise died instantly. They even called us back to make sure it was still quiet! No problems since. The hotel had a lot of young couples, young groups - mostly college age. My sis and I are in our mid-30s and felt comfortable there. No kids to be seen anywhere.
We did a lot of day trips and tours that left early so know that the hotel has a place where you can buy snacks 24/7. The choices are limited but we couldn't go elsewhere that early in the AM, nothing was open until 7 or 8. Their "mocha" was coffee with Carnation powder mix, it was awful. They had sandwiches, wraps, pastries, coffees, teas, wine, beer for sale. Very very expensive but that is to be expected at a hotel. They had one person heating up the sandwiches and making coffee so sometimes the line got long and people were getting impatient. Just a heads up if you're catching a plane.
Plenty of transportation options once you set out for your day. There is an abundance of tuk tuks and taxis around. You are close to the Skytrain, the freeway, a highly rated hospital, spas, restaurants, pharmacies, bars all on this street alone!
The service staff was not exceptional, but they weren't bad either. They just don't go out of their way to greet you like the other hotels did on our trip. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
