“Flawless experience provided by people who put their heart and sou”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

I had exceptional meal. Fine ingredients were handled masterfully. Flavours of all dishes are well-balanced. The impression was kept high from the first to the last dish. The highlight for me was angel hair pasta with truffle sauce and surf and turf which displays chef's skill of cooking different protiens. Overall, i was very impressed.

“Worthy of a celebration”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

Napa on 26

Four of us ate here, and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The greeting by the staff was very warm and friendly, and the service was impeccable. Attentive but not in your face! The ambience was delightful, a beige and light brown decor into which the beautifully set tables blended well. The high-backed arm chairs were very comfortable and inspired a feeling of privacy. The menu is large but not pretentious, and each description was easily understood and identifiable. Each of us had different entrees and mains and all were ecstatic with our choices and their flavours. The presentation was excellent too and the servings were not those small ones that some upmarket restaurants seem to believe is their right. In addition the meal beginning with an unordered "amuse bouche" and the pallet-cleansing sorbet between the entree and the mains was a lovely touch. The wine list was extensive, featuring mainly wines from Napa Valley, California, but also some Australian and European wines too. The desserts, which we did not need but could not resist, were worth the calories!
The wonderful Executive Chef, Christian, sat and chatted with us after our mains were served and his background and experience was fascinating, giving us an insight into his exciting menu.
We will definitely return to Napa on 26, and will encourage others who visit Bangkok to do the same. Price-wise it is in the "special occasion" category but it is easy enough to find something to celebrate, isn't it?
One small criticism - the background music was a little loud but not intrusive enough for us to mention it to Christian.....and we certainly had every opportunity to do so if we had wished.
Whilst the restaurant is not in the main tourist area it is an easy and cheap taxi ride away. If in doubt, call the restaurant and I am sure they will send a taxi so you need not worry about finding the venue.

“Expensive, but worth the price - in quality and quantity!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Well the Napa isn´t for small budget. The wine list is unbelievable and has some of the best Bordeauxs and - naturally - really, really great Californians on it. But even the not so expensive ones are great and offer real good value.

For the food we all had the Surf and Turf and wow, it not only was one of the most expensive, most decadent dishes I ever had - a big piece of wagyu beef, topped with a boston lobster, caviar and even a big chunk of Foie Grass - but also a great one. Oppulent and delicate and the same time. Startes and dessert were great too.

“If the food doesn't blow you away, the service will”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

Writing a review of Napa on 26 has turned out to be a difficult task for me simply because I felt there was disparity in the level of service and the quality of cooking.
Firstly, the location of Napa on 26 is in a quiet Japanese mall that I thought was a bit odd and out of place, considering you are surrounded by a mini-Tokyo food street on all sides. It is, however, easily accessible from Rama IV Road.
We opted for the Sunday brunch which turned out to be a smart choice because of the lack of traffic and the restaurant was not too busy at that time of day. The brunch concept here featured a salad and dessert all-you-can eat buffet spread and then all-you-can-eat a la carte-style menu featuring two starters, a soup, and about 7 mains. The menu, though simple, included a type of main dish for all - 2 fish, lamb, chicken, beef, pasta, etc.
Secondly, the interior is very elegant, perfect for a celebration meal or a cozy, romantic evening. This is not a large restaurant which is good for a more intimate, non-serious atmosphere. It uses high-quality glassware and cutlery. The seats are comfortable, high-back leather chairs. It is the kind of place that invites you to open a bottle of wine and linger until it closes. One thing that seemed out of place was the music chosen to be played in the restaurant. It is always on, which I thought was a bit strange for a supposedly romantic venue. The choice of songs was also another noticeable point. The restaurant seemed to be a fan of soul music. It felt like James Brown was screaming out lyrics right beside our table. It is okay if you don't notice it but after awhile how can you not?
Thirdly, the service was extraordinary. There was a team of well-mannered and good-natured guys serving our table. Everyone was completely charming and helpful. The chef, Christian, took some time off to chat with our table. You could tell his immense passion for what he is doing. His travels around the world obviously plays a major role in his cooking style. The pace of service was okay. There was some sluggishness here and there, but once the proper flow was set, everything was corrected and food came out timely. A really nice moment was when the staff presented us with a wickedly delicious surprise birthday cheesecake. This was an absolutely unnecessary but most charming gesture. It is things like these (and the lovely roses handed to the ladies as we were exiting) that separate the really good restaurants from the truly great ones.
Fourthly, the food overall ranged from mediocre to very good. It was not the best brunch in Bangkok, but it ranked among the most memorable. My Eggs Benedict starter was a good beginning except for the tough muffin on which it came. The following spicy beef Bolognese angel hair pasta fared less well for me as I thought too much chili was used to enhance the "spicy" part of the dish. It just overpowered everything else in there. I also was not sure if angel hair pasta was the best choice for the dish, perhaps a thicker type like Ravioli or Tagliatelle would have been more suitable and heartier. Granted, the main dish concept here does not focus on quantity but rather on tasting-size ones that would allow multiple selections. My second main of roasted chicken was much tastier. Of note was the delicious bed of mashed potatoes and sauce, and it came out really quickly. As previously mentioned, the cheesecake was delightful. I would say dessert is a particularly strong point for Napa on 26.
Napa on 26 is a great choice for a celebration/occasion meal with someone or people you are comfortable in spending a good time with. Being positioned as a neo-Californian cuisine place with emphasis on Napa Valley wines is a wonderful idea, providing that the small menu it offers hit the marks on all fronts which I know the restaurant tries to do. I am sure that subsequent visits will be superior to the previous one, and I look forward to the relaxed vibe and exciting food on offer there.
