“Amazing Airport Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012 via mobile

What a pleasant surprise and the staff were so hospitable from the pick up late at night from the airport to ensuring everything was to your liking. A pleasant clean air conditioned room and here is the 'icing on the cake', a mini bar with a difference - everything is free in it - beer, water etc. An early morning call, breakfast and shuttle bus to the airport every 45 minutes. They did an excellent job, were so friendly and just 10 minutes from the airport - thank you for a great stay

What a wonderful find, and so close to the airport. A charming boutique style hotel with style and and friendliness. You really could not get closer to the airport than this unless you stayed at the Novatel airport hotel for four or five times the price! Took just 10 mins with the free shuttle service, which was extremely efficient. We needed only one night to fit in with our connecting flights and this was perfect. Lovely pristine clean and spacious room, complimentary mini bar, free wifi. Comfortable bed with soft cotton sheets. Also gave us a free drop off and pick up when needing to get to the train station a couple of miles away. Gave us a local mobile to keep in contact if needed. A contemporary modern feel but with a relaxing cosiness too. General area is simple and local, but 2 mins walk to a small supermarket and cafe. A perfect place to stop over or to use as a base if spending a few days exploring.

We stayed here first in August and liked it so much we changed all our flights so that we could return and spend more time exploring Bangkok and staying in such a lovely place. Unfortunately, we both got bad chest infections on the flight over and were very ill, particularly my husband. Well, what wonderful people. By day two at the Lilac the owner/manager, Oi, took us under her wing and to the world class hospital (Samitivej Srinakarin) where she guided us to the right, very professional, English speaking doctor. The care was excellent, the medications effective and all for under $US85.00. She then took us to a supermarket to get supplies. We were not well enough to leave the hotel but were cared for all the time for five days, with the staff bringing us chilled fruit and light evening meals until we felt able to go home. We left four days early and Oi wanted to refund our prepaid bill. Needless to say we were not going renege on a contract. As we refused to take any money back, Oi refused to charge us for all the food they had bought us and our laundry bill. What hotel in the world would be so wonderful? They were the most caring people and all this on top of a very special hotel anyway. We simply can’t recommend this place highly enough, everything about it was faultless. A big thank you everyone for your care of us.

The residence were waiting to pick us from the airport. On arrival, very friendly reception, welcome drink. The area, about 10 minutes drive from the terminal, was not salubrious, but a couple of minutes walk away was a beautiful wat complex. For the evening meal, the residence booked a nearby restaurant for us, drove us there and provided a mobile phone for us to call to be picked up when we were ready. Pleasant meal by the canal, with music, reasonably priced. Room was plain, but with comfortable bed, all amenties - and free mini-bar(including 2 beers). Drove us back to airport at some horrible hour of the morning. We will certainly stop there again on any future overnighters. (We also submitted this review to Agoda)

We stayed here on our way home from Vietnam. It's a fantastic airport stopover hotel. We arrived late but our free transfer was still waiting at the gate for us. It's a short 10 minute journey to the hotel. The hotel is lovely inside. Our room was basic but really big. The hotel arranged a free transfer to a local restaurant ( fab food at great price) and gave us a mobile phone so that we could call the hotel when we were ready to go back. Breakfast the next morning was great and a free transfer back to the airport! Highly recommended!

We arrived a little early so there was no one there to pick us up. A different greeter offered to call the hotel (I remembered to bring contact info) and ten minutes later the escort was there. There was another group he was supposed to pick up so we waited a further ten minutes then he sent us on ahead alone.
The hotel is about ten minutes from the airport. Not sure a taxi would easily find the place so thank goodness for the hotel van. The front desk had key in hand, registration took about two minutes and we were in our room. Room was exactly as pictured, simple and clean. The van was ready the next day and we left on schedule. This was a good choice to stay for a quick overnight near the Bangkok airport.

If you want to stay near the Bangkok airport you basically have two choices. The one "on property hotel" which is the Novotel that can be reached from the bottom level of the airport but also is expensive ($175 per night the last I checked). Or, you can go off property which should run less than $50 - $60 to as cheap as $20 or less. The thing to be careful about with off property locations is that some of them advertise as airport hotels but really aren't very close. I prefer the ones right by the entrance. All of them have good pick up and drop off and are easy to locate your ride once you come out of security. (If they have your name they will be holding it up. If not, just look for the hotel by name.) Make sure that transportation is included in your rate so that you don't have a surprise. None of them are in a great location for anything other than the airport. If you want to take the skyway into the city it would be good to try to find one near the skyway as well or at least make sure that they will pick you up at the skyway on your return. (All of them can get you to the skyway. It is getting back from the skyway to the hotel that can be difficult.) The way that the Lilac differentiates itself from the others is the cleanliness of the property and friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The rooms are VERY clean and comfortable. Internet is free and relatively fast (fast enough to watch video). Good air conditioning. I have stayed at several of the airport hotels and this one is by far the best one I have stayed at so far. It is very close to the terminal (5-10 minutes instead of 15-20 minutes).
