I had the pleasure to stay 2 nights in this 70's palace. It's an easy 5 minutes walk from the nearest BTS station. To be honest this hotel is stuck in the 70’s (not even the 80's) My room felt like an old Dallas episode hotel room and was in not such a good state.
The hotel needs to be totally redone to become a palace.

On a positive the food offered in the restaurant suites my taste Nd budget very well.

The smell of smoke in the room was enough to discourage me from returning again. Initially booked to be located near to Chatujak weekend market but there were nicer hotels within walking distance of the market. It took us about 15 minutes by taxi into Bangkok central but you would be better paying more money and staying in the centre.
Very basic amenities but sufficient for a quick stop-just ensure that your room is non-smoking if this is a problem for you!

Room Tip: ask for one that is non-smoking

The room my friend and I got is the twin one. Overall it is a 1-star hotel with pretty decent facilities. It seems old but it's okay specially for budget traveller's like us. Security wise, it's okay too. The only con for the hotel I guess is their location which is pretty hard to find since we arrived at BKK at around 11:30pm. My friend and I can't find a person who'll understand us.. And we did not want to ride the taxi from the airport all the way to the hotel. We took the airport rail link since on the website of Nice Palace they stated that we can and transfer trains to Saphan Kwai. However, they didn't put the walking directions from Saphan Kwai to the hotel. They just stated that it is a 5-minute walk. We have no clue exactly where we are, and we are two girls visiting a foreign country for the first time. We walker and luckily we came by a 7-11 store and ask the sales person there about the direction. Though the sales clerk didn't speak any english at all she still manage to explain the direction to me with sign language.. She tried her best and I did too.. Anyways, we ended up asking a tuk-tuk ride.. Good thing we have the address of the place which I also showed to the sales clerk. So to conclude we were able to arrive at the hotel safely. If you are planning on staying at this hotel make sure you have their address printed out in Thai language so that you won't get lost.

We booked this hotel in advance as the location was supposed to be fairly close to the Chutuchak Market, not so much.We were looking for something clean & simple.I spoke with the owner via email, all sounded great, breakfast was even included. When we arrived after a long 9 hour bus ride, tired and looking for a good night sleep,we were greatly disappointed. The man at the counter kept us there for over an hour for "check in".Asked for an extra deposit for the room and told us that now breakfast is not included and we were put into a room with 2 twin beds for the three of us to share.(We had booked a room with 3 twin beds). The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke and body odour. There was a smeared brown substance on the carpet. The bathroom was discusting and the shower fawcet was broken. We attempted to crawl into bed to get sleep,as it was so late at this point and we were so tired and frusterated from our dealings with the front desk.I could feel "things" crawling on me all night. In the morning all of our backpacks were wriggling with little ants and we were covered in bites.I flipped up the sheets and found 2 squished bed bugs under the covers.I would NEVER recommend this place, even if it was free. There are many other options for accomodations in this area of Bangkok.

If you're after a cheap, clean and convenient place to stay then check out the Nice Palace Hotel in northern Bangkok. Staff are great, and most speak ok English. (Have a go with your phrasebook Thai and you will win many friends!) Rooms are clean but, depending on the room, the shower may be a tight squeeze if you're a big bloke. There's a taxi service in the hotel, but if you're just shuffling between the many sights then use the nearby Saphan Kwai skytrain, about a 10 minute walk away. Sam Sen railway station is closeby too, which is handy for any trips to the must-see provincial towns like Surin. Sam Sen is about 60 Baht ride by tuk-tuk. The weekend Chatuchak market is closeby and only one stop away on the skytrain at Mo Chit. (Buy an all-day ticket for 120 Baht and travel anywhere on the skytrain.) Cheap delicious street food can be found everywhere and there are two good laundry shops about a 5 minute walk away which will clean and press your laundry for 15-20 Baht a piece - and they both do a superb job too.

To get there by public transport from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, use the new airport link to Phaya Thai interchange (15 Baht) then grab the Mo Chit line skytrain and get off at Saphan Kwai (25 Baht). If you don't want to leg it, grab a tuk tuk in front of the Big C department store and don't pay more than 40 baht for the short trip to the hotel. We will stay there again.

Nice Palace Hotel: Fine to stay for one or two days
Date: 22 Nov 2010

We have booked this hotel to stay for last two nights (Oct 30 to Nov 01, 2010) in Bangkok after our weeklong tour in Phuket. We have booked this hotel for the weekend as this hotel is very nearer to the Chatuchak (Weekend) market. As our main purpose in Bangkok was the Chatuchak market, we were very happy with the location of the hotel. Otherwise the hotel is very simple but good as compare to the price. So we didn't expect much from this hotel. It has restaurant but we have not taken any food from there. We usually used to take food from a restaurant very near to this hotel. You should always get Taxi & tuk tuk in front of the hotel.
Room of this hotel (where we have stayed) is big. TV & refrigerator was there in the room. Toilet is really small & the balcony was not very clean. Other wise the hotel is fine.
One thing I want to mention is that it doesn't have a good travel desk.
Those who want it stay in cheap for one or two days near to Chatu Chak market, this hotel is very good for them.
