Had the pleasure of going to the Verandah for breakfast. Even though there was just one of me I was given a big table with a wonderful view of the river. I ordered the seasonal fruit, which was beautifully carved - a real work of art. This was followed by a coconut waffle, which was to die for. The staff were lovely and attentive without being obtrusive. Definitely recommend trying the Verandah and will return.

We always try to have a lunch at the Verandah when travelling through Bangkok, arriving on the boat from the Skytrain station, and are never disappointed. We only have the Thai menu and the food is always well cooked and presented with friendly service. We did find, on this occasion, that we gave the same order to more than one server but the food arrived correctly and promptly.
Overall this continues to be a very nice place to spend a couple of hours at lunch.

This place in the evenings is perhaps the best in Bangkok. I was there in March - not that hot and so you could sit out in the open and enjoy the lovely view of the river and the breeze. The Italian food is delicious and thankfully, there is no loud music - so you can talk and enjoy the conversation. They have some very special cocktails - legendary ones made by a famous bartender who served drinks for decades at the hotel. You can be dressed casually or formally - feel comfortable either ways. It is expensive though but well worth the price!

The Oriental is a fine hotel, and their Bamboo Bar is especially wonderful. But for lunchtime dining, their Verandah restaurant is extremely medium, with a couple of very miserable looking Thai waitresses. Very disappointing and a let down for this great hotel.

Lobster was great, Rostbeef marvelous, lamb amazing, dessert for every taste.
The complement should take the boat of hotel for a short visit to Taksin station and return to dinner. Great choice.
