“A great view of the river, pleasant rooms and close to tourist central”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2011

The rooms were slightly on the small size but good, with a nice view of the river (the river view rooms are the definate go). Our booking included breakfast, which is buffet style and good.
The outdoor area overlooking the river is quiet, pleasant and scenic.
Even though we had paid in advance the hotel asked for a refundable 1,000 baht "key deposit". No problems getting this back when we left, but it did tie up baht, which should be planned for.

The service was okay, but we felt that the hotel tried to charge for any extra, including some that might be considered basics. No wi-fi, and the lobby computers where a tad expensive (especially the printing).

Just across the road, and down an alley (the quickest way is the alley to the right of New Siam 2) is Khao Sam, which is a touristy narrow street with heaps of restaurants, bars etc.. From our perspective this was best in the daytime when it was not too crowded, and became a litle tiresome at night.

What is great value is the ferry that runs from the riverfront, which you can access from a walkway at the back of the hotel (turn right).the cost was 15 baht each way to the city. We didn't bother with the much more expensive cruise.

Room Tip: The Riverview is worthwhile. If not you will have a view of other hotels rooms.

Large hotel with super clean rooms. Reception and kitchen/restaurant staff were helpful. We don't usually eat at hotel restaurants but the Thai selection and quality was really good and you can sit on the deck and watch the river life. Minutes/seconds from buses and river boats and a short walk to Khao San. Clean pool. Buffet breakfast (included) is extensive: vegetables; rice; soup; eggs (hard boiled, fried, omlette); toast; cereal; fruits, tea; coffee; juice; pancakes; honey; jams; noodle dishes...massive! For us it's all about the river location.

If you come to Bangkok you just have to visit Khao Sarn. It’s a back packer ghetto but in its dirty, scary, sleazy, and rip-off-the-tourist way, it is one of those things you just have to do. So staying here can be a fun experience, and also a necessity as Khao sarn is most fun at night.
Staying in Khao Sarn itself can be scary with all the druggies around (despite a police station near by). So we preffered to stay at new siam. Firstly make sure you get the the river view room that comes with a balcony. The rooms are nice and have the basics, although I had to tell the staff to get the toilet cleaned on the third day. Now wake up early morning to just see the river a little quite and then as it gets busier as time goes by. You can see the fantastic transition of bkk city as it wakes up.
The breakfast at this place is great too. Good food, and if you can manage to get a riverside table, that will be great too. Make sure you try the yummy pad thai. And try to avoid the pad thai at Khao sarn, cuz its atleast a few days old and can get you sick easily. The walk to khao sarn is very nice….but on the way back can get a little scary at night, especially if you’re alone. Just catch a taxi on the way back, only about 40bt.
Khao sarn is a one night visit, maybe 2 at the max. New siam is a safe and ideal place to stay

we stayed 1 night in this very clean and comfortable hotel. especially the breakfast was delicious. The buffet was very diverse and tasty, specially we loved the fresh fruits from melon to pine apple. from our bedroom we had a great view over the river. the pool was very refreshing. we paid about 2500TBH per night, it was a bit expensive, but after all it was worth it.

we recommend this hotel :-)

My wife and I stayed at the River Siam in late May 2011 for three nights.
Our experience was very good. Our daughter and husband stayed there in 2009 with our young grandchild and had enjoyed the experience. We came from two months of travelling through Europe and although it was a fabulous holiday, we wanted to relax, so we stopped for three nights in Bangkok on the return trip to Australia.

The hotel is situated by the Chao Phraya river, the main waterway transport route through Bangkok and a ferry/river taxi stop is a minute away. The river transport is a most convenient and pleasurable way to get around the city with low fumes, low cost, and frequent services, quite apart from the fascinating sights, the mixture of ancient and modern. The backpacker bright light bustle of Khao San Road is a five minute walk through the leafy monastery/restaurant/bar lane, past Siam II, in fact I find it much more attractive than Khao San itself.

Our room was a balcony room on the sixth floor, a good size with a large comfortable bed, TV and fridge. The room and bathroom were spotless. The view over the river and city is wonderful and well worth the additional cost.

We used the swimming pool a number of times, very enjoyable and certainly no problem with the quality of the water. The breakfast is the usual Asian buffet style, here served on the river terrace, very pleasant in the warm morning sun. The quality is quite good for Asian hotel breakfasts with a selection of European and Asian cooked and cereal/fruit. I have seen and tasted better, some Asian hotels offer a huge selection, but for the hotel mid price range this is fine. The internet is not wireless, however the reception will loan you a cable for your own computer otherwise there are computers in the lobby for minimal cost. The connection was not fast when I used it.

We found the staff to be helpful and obliging, greeting you with the warm Thai smile. It was a pleasure to return to Bangkok and a pleasure to stay at the River Siam.

Room Tip: As stated, the balcony rooms with the river view are well worth the additional expense - minimal fro...

This place is proof of the saying "you get what you pay for", and for anyone looking for something a bit nicer than the standard rooms ranging from 600-1000 baht around the Kho San/ temple/ Pra Athit area, look no further. We had the basic room for 1390baht which included a really good buffet breakfast with lots of western choices, good coffee, fruit, muesli etc.
The location is fantastic, right on the river where you can lay by the pool (clean, lots of loungers) or enjoy your breakfast on the terrace just ten minutes away from the madness of Kho San. The rooms are to a high western standard and the beds are huge & comfortable & even though there was some building going on next door we never heard it once inside the hotel. I slept better than i have in the last 6 months of travelling S.E.Asia & plan to return when back in BKK.
Our only negative points were that we were told "free wifi" then charged 50baht for a lead. When i asked for some more tea bags i was told "2 complimentary 2 bags per day" & some of the staff were less helpful with not so good English as others.
Finally, as breakfast is served outside, a cover for the fruit to keep the flies off would have been nice.

This little Guest house is located in a little lane in the "Kaoh San Road Area". The lane is walking area and too small for cars, only Taxi's drive into the street from time to time to drop off or collect hotel guests, therefor the rooms are very quiet.
It's clean and the size of the room is reasonable for the price. We stayed there in February 2011 for 620 Baht.
