We spent 3 weeks in Thailand for our honeymoon and this was one of the highlights!

We ensured we arrived early at the public pier to get the hotel transfer boat service to the Anantara Hotel. This gave as time to have a cocktail beside the river until it was time to board the boat.

The boat was beautiful and the staff were very friendly, teaching us some Thai during the cruise without being intrusive. I think boarding early ensured we had a more relaxed meal.

We saw some sights from the boat and while they did talk about what we were passing it wasn't always easy to hear. We were given a guide about the sights on the river but only at the end of the cruise - I think it would have been more useful at the beginning.

Not every meal was too my tastes (I don't eat seafood so they had to alter the menu for me) but my husband loved everything. Most of the dishes were great and we definitely felt that it was worth the money.

Okay, first I want to say ultimately we really enjoyed the cruise, the ambiance and the food (gold dinner) were very good - while they are not the same quality that you would get in a small restaurant you have to keep in mind that it is a dinner cruise which usually has sub-par fare. The food on this cruise was probably the best we've had on any dinner cruise. The sights are beautiful. Unfortunately, getting on the boat was incredibly stressful. We chose to get on at the public pier and the boat was about 30 minutes late - we were panicked that we had either missed it (despite being early) or that we were at the wrong pier since there were not any signs marking where to get on and off and it is a bustling pier with water taxis, hotel shuttles, etc. Once on board there were welcome drinks and an appetizer waiting for us which we had to scarf down because our first course arrived about 5 minutes after we had boarded. All in all, we recommend the cruise but suggest you get on at the mandarin oriental or the pier where the boat docks because we were the last ones on the boat (by at least 30 minutes) and the first ones off so we lost at least an hour of the ride and were more hurried than we would have preferred.

Dear Guest,
Thank you so much for sharing your great experience on one of our Manohra Dining Cruises. Our culinary team really enjoyed to read, that the food was one of the best you ever had on a dinner cruise. I am sorry to hear, that there was some confusion about pick up time and exact location at the Saphan Taksin pier, but we agree with you and recommend to all our guests to start the dinner journey directly at our hotel, the Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, to enjoy the full length of the dinner cruise. Thank you so much again.
Yours sincerely,
Markus Krebs

expecting a nice time?, give this a big miss, boat late at pick up, early to return , felt rushed the entire time, food and service average, overpriced. reflects badly on the anantara hotel, wlth a little bit of effort could be so much better.

This is why I never use hotel concierges anymore....

A beautiful boat and a lovely looking brochure. For some reason despite being in a riverside hotel (the Hilton), we were sent off on the hotel's shuttle boat to the public landing where the Menohra arrived almost 30 minutes late (we were just about to leave).

It was the last pickup spot on the boat's route so the service was very ,much under way, we were shown to a table and ordered cocktails - all good.

Then the first course arrived before the cocktails and was cleared well before we had had the time to enjoy the various elements of the course in anything resemnbling a relaxed manner.

The real diappointment with that was that the first course was the only one which was good, the rest was extremely average Thai food (about the same level as the shopping centre food halls - below the level of street vendors).

It was the rushed, approximate, service with absolutely no interest in either the guests or providing a level of service in keeping with the environment (or price) that was the real disappointment - we spent the "romantic" evening listening to plates and cutlery banging and watching waiters running...

As far as the commentary - it only existed during the first half of the cruise and everything was on the opposite side of the boat from us - after we turned around, the commentary seemed to simply stop (we did observe that the "guide" was speaking into the micropone at the same time as she was preparing drinks orders - in full view of the entire boat. Her english was very poor anyway so it really didn't matter.

Thankfully all of my other excursions in Thailand I reserved myself after checking out Tripadvisor - this was the only one where I simply trusted the concierge, never again!

had the occasion to experience a night time cruise on the chao praya river in bangkok.
reservation was flawless from the US.
our first night out in bangkok we were eager with anticipation to have a relaxing, romantic dinner cruise. the converted river barge was well appointed and the ambience was perfect.
unfortunately it all went downhill from then on. we were picked up from the pier at the shangri la hotel where we were staying and were hustled to our table. the drink and food started arriving at our table before we could even appreciate the environment we were in. the barge sped on past the beautifully lit up palace and temple landmarks along the river with a hurried , poorly narrated brief description of the landmark we were passing by. the least we expected was a slowing down of the barge so we could appreciate the site while a well presented narrative was given to us. the operative modus operandi of this cruise seems to be --"get them in, feed them and sent them packing in a coupla hours"
--and the food is extremely mediocre. the service distinguished by being totally devoid of the hospitality that thais are famous for.
in conclusion ---give this cruise a wide miss! sadly, it can be such a wonderful experience if the service was lengthened by an hour and the pace and presentation was slower paced.
