Description: The Rain Tree Café has been reconceived in a modern interpretation of Thai neo-colonial interior décor + style. Three separate but complementary spaces evidencing extreme elegance and making excellent use of natural light are interwoven with threads of touching homeliness. These three unique areas are cleverly interwoven and are aptly named: The Bronze Kitchen upgraded with interactive live cooking stations, The Valaya Room with its formal library-style "VIP" space and The Secret Garden for more private affairs. Enjoy an inspiring voyage of discovery on our stunning international buffet that also features five specialty dishes of the day from our specialist head chefs. Service for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Sunday Brunch and Dessert Buffet.

“One of my favourite destinations in Bangkok when my wife is not around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

After 33 years of being in Asia and the last 20 spending 100s of nights a year on the road , Hotel kitchens especially Buffets bore me .

However a person who gets bored at this buffet must be tired of life .....its not only quantity , its variety and quality ...Previous reviewers have listed the menus ....

I merely say that it is one of the best Hotel Coffee shops in the region , from service to price
It has pushed every green button in a very jaded traveller.

The Sunday brunch is worth getting up for , or not going to bed for ...well you are in Bangkok

If however you are under a calorie watch ...best avoid telling your controller as this is definitely
a weeks allowance in one meal affair

“Great Oasis In Bangkok”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

There are a lot of good restaurants in Bangkok but every once in a while you find one that stands out and is above the others. The Rain Tree Café in the Plaza Athenee Hotel is such a place. It is in a delightful garden like setting away from the hustle and bustle of the Bangkok streets.

The restaurant offers a gourmet buffet with a different theme each night as well as a Sunday Brunch buffet. We went on German night. In addition to many German specialties there was also other international choices form sushi to chilled seafood to Indian, cooked seafood, steaks and Italian choices. The chilled Alaskan King Crab legs were very large and flavorful. We had a little bit of everything and especially enjoyed the pigs knuckle and sausages offered as part of the German selection.

It's hard to do, but if you go, leave room for desserts which offers many delectable choices.

The service was excellent from the greeting to the cook staff that would deliver you food such as grilled salmon if they had to prepare it.

We ordered the free flow drinks package which is a very good deal. Our waitress made sure our glasses were never empty.

They are currently offering a coupon program, 950 Baht for dinner that lasts until May or until the coupons run out. Even without the coupon the Rain Tree Cafe is an excellent value given the quality of the food and service.

“We should have tried the dinner sooner.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

Having enjoyed the hotel and the outstanding breakfast that is available here, we wanted to be the 'seasoned travelers' and make a point of eating out every night. Our last day here and we had a bit of a nightmare journey (involving a trip to a FAR away fishing supplies shop courtesy of Hubby and 4 hours spent in traffic) I was in no mood to tackle the streets again and with little time to our flight The Rain Tree Café was a comprise to our urban adventure.
We explored the options - They offer a Sensational seafood buffet, totally mouthwatering, but also have Italian pasta to order, Chinese, Thai and Indian dishes available too. I regret not trying the buffet but hubby was craving middle eastern food and they also have a vast menu of which we were able to order a Turkish/Lebanese feast.
The food was delicious and service was impeccable. I would like to say thank you to Pranee and Panita for making our final meal here special, as we were made to feel like we were really valued as customers and also more personal level from the hotel. These ladies are typical of the service that you receive at Plaza Athenee. I already miss that place and I've only been home 3 days.

“A very pleasant place.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

I have been to meetings at this hotel on several occasions - or otherwise had reason to have lunch here. The people I work with know Bangkok very well, and know which hotels have the best value (bang for the baht) in meeting space and associated amenities - including quality, value, and vibe of appropriate places to eat. This hotel, and the Rain Tree Cafe, gets more than its share of such events. The location counts against it - w.r.t. my workplace - as the location is quite far away. But the quality of this cafe counts for it - as staff and partners are always happy to eat here.

There is a good range of Thai and "international" favourites, very tastefully arranged. The flow through the buffet is very good - and pleasant. As are the eating areas.
