The creativity and innovation was world class. The food was delicious as are the pre/post dinner cocktails. The set up at this location is a 12 seater chefs table where you interact with / chat to the chefs. I've been to many accoladed restaurants around the world and this one is right up there. We paid about USD350 pp for a pre dinner cocktail, dinner and matched wines.

Dinner at the Water Library was the highlight of our trip to Bangkok. Travelling with friends from the US we dined at the Water Library restaurant at Chamburi Square. We chose the Chef's menu and enjoyed every bite - the dishes just kept on coming. The food was amazing and the wines selected by our host were great accompaniments to the meal. Of course we also tried from the water menu! Definitely a place to visit for a high quality wining and dining experience in Bangkok.

Tried many restaurants in Bangkok and this is abt the best I have come across. They have 2 branches - Thonglor and Jamjuree - later could spell differently.

Ordered the lobster and it was worth the additional money paid.....never had lobster so fresh like it and so well presented. Sauce is amazing....they called it fusion but I called it good food.

Other dishes were good as well. Highly recommended and you have to try it to know the difference.

General comments - the Chumchuri branch at night is quite magical; my previous visits were always for lunch and I found the décor a little unrefined in the harsh light of day through the expansive surrounding glass windows. With the excellent lighting, the dining room at night is a totally new experience. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, and the manager Mr Kramny was very charming and welcoming.

Menu Dégustation

Scallop tartar - was interesting but perhaps not a complete success. The scallops were fresh and deliciously delicate but I found the watermelon granita too sweet and overwhelming and the rouille too robust for the delicacy of the tartar.

Atlantic Cod – was perfection. The fish was outstandingly fresh and perfectly cooked. The beurre noisette perfectly prepared, the mix of earthiness from the porcini was well balanced by the sweetness of the carrots and peas. The truffle addition to the vegetables only added to enhance all the other flavours.

Foie Gras –the main ingredient was of the highest quality and perfectly cooked and the bed of grain was a very well chosen counterpart to the richness of the foie gras; however, I found the pineapple too sweet and lacked the necessary acidity for such a rich dish and the parmesan drops (no froth) were too rich and flavoursome and competing with the main ingredient of the dish.

Berliner Senfei – was a confused dish. The mustard sauce was too sharp; the beetroot was served as a sorbet in a separate dish which did help balance the flavours and the Beluga Caviar was completely wasted on this dish because of all the other flavours. The egg yolk which should have been the star of the dish was rather lost.

Wagyu beef cheek – the meat was excellent and perfectly cooked, the Madeira sauce was well reduce and the flavours intense and well balanced and perfectly complimented the meat and the truffle shavings on top of the beef added depth and balanced the dish. The celeriac purée was delicious and the flavour well choosen. But I was not sure why the dish had apricot purée which added an unnecessary sweetness to the dish which the well balanced Madeira sauce has already provided; more celeriac purée would have provided a better accompaniment.

Strawberries – the fruit was fresh and ripe but not exceptional. The whole dish was not a success, however with too many elements trying to elevate a plate of fresh strawberries into a desert. The warm milk was served on the side and had an intriguing fragrance, was it perhaps infused with truffle?) From previous visits to The Water Library I have had their Tarte Tatin which in my view is one of the finest I have ever had anywhere in the world so this Fresa! was a great disappointment.

The overall impression is that the kitchen selects the highest quality ingredients and cooks them to perfection but sometimes the concepts of the dishes need a little more consideration and perhaps to recognise that knowing when to stop adding another element to a dish can add to the refinement and balance of the dish.

When I say grown up this place has a serenity and quality of service that is different from all the other "of the moment places" in Thonglor that seem to think quality doesn't matter if you are hip.
The Water Library Thonglor is set to become a Bangkok Institution.
Great Service and drinks
