Kuhn Patara Sila-On has created yet another exquisitely good Thai restaurant at 375 Soi Thonglor 19, Sukhumivt 55 in Bangkok, her second here in her home town and this one close by her own home, so she does visit some evenings. With excellent restaurants already in London, Geneva, Taipei and Singapore she has now chosen an old style Bangkok mansion with wonderful decor to house her latest culinary effort. This founder of S&P restaurants, a favorite of family dining with young kids on the go has presented yet another high-end traditional Thai restaurant. They offer great food, terrific and attentive service and do charge the high-end prices that for Thai restaurants seems overly expensive. But this food is worth every baht. We loved the Larb Tao-Hu Gab Khao Tang Tod Krob (spicy tofu salad with shallots, green onions and jasmine rice crackers) and the Panaeng Pla Kapong Yang Bai Tong (sea bass char-grilled in banana leaf with panaeng curry sauce) and the satay are all delicious. And the chefs take great care with lovely presentations. Plan to relax and stay a while to enjoy the many offerings and atmosphere.

My friends and I had the Set 1 menu (assortment of appetizers plus soup, four entree dishes and desert) and everything was stunning. If you plan to do the set, arrive hungry. We were four people and they prepped the set family style. There was more than enough for all. It was pricey at over 900 Baht per person, but delightful to have such a variety of goodies. You could probably spend a bit less by just ordering separate entrees and sharing, but I doubt you could get as much variety for the price.

Our group of 6 friends, 4 Thai nationals & 2 visitors from Sydney, dined at Patara restaurant in Bangkok mid week & whilst the place was quiet, their staffing was not reduced & so the standard of service was exceptional.
Their menu is quite classic, with many benchmark Thai dishes presented perfectly, with no dumbing down for the non Thai diners.
The best of the starters was the Tempura of soft shell crab in black pepper sauce which was accompanied with the crisp & bright 2012 Granmonte Estate 'Spring' Chenin Blanc.
The mains were diverse & none disappointed & were partnered by a stylish 2010 Granmonte Estate 'Heritage' Syrah.
The surprise winner was the two desserts; the Thai standard of fragrant mango with coconut sweet rice & the stewing durian fruit with coconut sweet rice.
Whilst Patara is clearly not a budget restaurant, the quality of their cuisine makes their prices still very good value for money.
The Granmonte Estate wines from the Asoke Valley near Khao Yai in north east Thailand were world class.

Went to Patara last week after reading the trip advisor reviews, tho this restaurant is in a restored Thai house and the decor is chic that's the only thing that's good really.
The meal was poor, more like a western restaurant trying to be Thai.....
We ordered the mixed satay and the spring rolls, everything tasted the same there was no distinction between flavours at all, our main meals were Pad Thai, Mussaman Lamb Curry and some beef in black pepper let me start with the best. The pads Thai was ok, but I've had better in lots and lots of places, including overseas but it was passable, the Mussaman curry was a bit strange on the palate as it had pineapple and some other sort of fruit in.. I've eaten Mussaman in many places in thailand but this is the first time it's had fruit, it was ok but not rushing back for.
Then let's go with the beef in black pepper..... Well this was just,,,, mmmm well,,,, FOUL it was poor quality meat, the taste was awful and not sure where the black pepper was in the dish, Thai food shud be sweet, sour, spicy these dishes lacked authenticity to say the least.
The staff we on the whole friendly but not overly smiley. English is severely lacking but as your in Thailand this is and never would be my issue, though if you want to attract overseas visitors and farang expats then this needs to be addressed
On the whole I don't think I will be rushing back.. To many nicer places

Delicious food, with wonderful flavours and authentic spice level (I don't think they play them down for tourists). I recommend the green mango salad, it was probably one of the best things I ate whilst in Thailand.
