Love the experience here. A must try for tourists especially for couples! Not advisable for couples with kids, its kinda hot and crowdy for the kids.

The floating market, about an hour north of Bangkok, is a must see, if visiting Thailand. Its as much fun to watch the other tourists in the longboats as it is to see the locals buying and selling. There are people from all over the world visiting this place, so fun to watch everyone's reactions. Take the one and a half hour boat tour and bring some extra cash. Lots of different types of products to buy. The market closes at noon so this is a morning attraction.

This was very disappointing after visiting the markets about 15 years ago. The boat ride there is good, but we were dropped off at the souvenir shops our guide disappeared. We had to find our way around with hundrends of other tourists. There is no explanation of why and how the markets developed nor do you get any information about the people who live and work there. This is not a place for shopping. Before we were put onto a mini bus back to Bangkok, the guide asked people where they bought their things from and disappeared again to collect a commisson form those shops. Next thing we were at a jewelry factory in the suburbs of Bangkok.

In my opinion a tourist to Bangkok should visit the floating market not for purchasing anything but atleast see the market. It is really good experience sailing through kanal and observing the life style of local residents settled at both sides of the narrow kanal. It is also very interesting to see so many small boats sailing in a narrow kanal; some of them are selling their home made products and some are filled with tourists. We hired a small boat which accommodate 3 peope at 3000 baht (1000 baht each) and i feel the rate is reasonable for almost 2 hours sailing.

Whatever it was a wonderful experience.
