On8 Sukhumvit Nana By Compass Hospitality

Reviewed November 25, 2009

Just checked out of on8 on Sukhumvit.
The hotel is very close to the skytrain (at the bottom of the stairs) wich gives it a step ahead of other hotels around here. Also it is very affordable and clean for only 50 Euro per night.
The staff in the restaurant is very attentive , friendly and nice !!! Pls note that !!!
BUT...the hotel is also very NOISY !!! Wich makes it a NEVER again for me !!!
I had to stay in bed one day because i was sick. This was on 23 nov 2009. During this day there was constructionwork going on on the roof above me ( i was on the topfloor). My goodness.
The drilling, hammering went on all day. It was almost unbearable. During the night time you can hear the streetnoise inside your room very clearly, dogs barking and tuktuks passing.
Also when your neighbour is using the bathroom you can hear what he or she is doing...You know what i mean. The decor and styling is nice and well done, but a goodnight sleep is where it is all about.

First Stay at On8 in Bangkok and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel and its the location next to the Skytrain can not be beat.

Rooms are on the small side, and no view, but the they offer a nice king size bed which is lovely to sleep on. Modern LCD tv with satellite - first place in a long time that actually has a perfect reception. Bathroom is spacious and and shower has pretty good water pressure and ample hot water. In room safe provides enough room to place a netbook which is a major plus in my book.

Free Wifi that is easy to use and signal strength is really good. Also have the option to use their own laptops in the lobby.

Free Breakfast is monstrous and if you are hungry I doubt you will stay that way if you manage to catch breakfast.

Next time I stay in Bangkok - definitely will return to On8.

You need the BTS? It's at the door step...just mere steps from the hotel's cafe entrance. You need 7-Eleven? Walk out of the hotel's lobby entrance and it's just round the corner. You need to tailor a suit? There's tailors around the corner and one right next door to the hotel.
You need a foot massage? Walk out of the hotel's lobby entrance and it's also just round the corner....There are also street food vendors selling noodles as well as small cafes along the soi.

With Bangkok's bad traffic jams, staying close to a BTS station is a plus. From Nana station, you can easily get to Siam Paragon, Central World, Emporium, MBK, Siam Square for shopping. You can even get to Chatuchak market on the BTS.

I stayed 3 nights in a Saffron room which was comfortable and clean. Sheets crisp and towels fluffy. My only negative feedback is the thermostat for the hot/cold water shower.....the temperature control is not working at all. So, you have to keep moving the control/tap so that you don't get scalded or frozen.

I told housekeeping staff that there was a problem with the shower and they said it was an engineering issue. I believe they have heard this feedback before. I wonder why this problem has not been rectified.

Breakfast was decent. You get to order how you want your eggs done....fried, scrambled, poached, omelette etc. And then you decide what side orders you want to include with your breakfast....ham, bacon, tomatoes, sausages etc..... The morning breakfast staff were friendly and efficient. And they always have a ready smile for you.

If you coming from the airport and turning left into Soi 8 from Sukhumvit, the hotel is located on the first right lane....and it's a dead-end road. The hotel is situated at the end of this dead end. Our friend's taxi driver drove down Soi 8 looking for the hotel.....so, do take note if you are going to the hotel in a taxi.

I am planning another trip to Bangkok soon with another group of friends and I am definitely going to stay here.

This new boutique hotel is located right under Nana BTS. The location is fantastic. The rooms are very modern design in beautiful colours and all the western comforts one could expect in 4.5 star accom. We stayed for a week and then went travelling around and came back for another week!! Highly recommended.

For its (low) price, this place really delivered in terms of cleanliness. It's rooms are well appointed and they look like the ones in the pictures, perhaps because they just opened for business in July this year. There are no windows in the rooms though, which didn't affect me at all, but might affect those who need windows and natural light streaming through. I thought the room decorations and appointments drew attention away from the fact that the room had no window. I liked it that it was a total blackout when you switched off all the lights, it was easier to sleep. Location-wise, it's really directly next to the Nana station which is about two stops away from Siam Paragon and such. It's also a direct train ride to the weekend Chatuchak market. It's a short cab ride to Royal City Avenue (known as RCA) where the row of clubbing and night spots are. From the hotel, fastest way to get to the Grand Palace is to take a cab, provided that it isn't jammed. Then after your tour at the Grand Palace, take a boat from the Tet River stop near the Grand Palace and ride like a local all the way to Platinum Mall in Pratunam where you can get off for good shopping at wholesale prices. And as a general rule, tell the taxis not to take the highway if you're just going around central Bangkok, because it's usually a trick to get you to spend more on the cab ride. The hotel restaurant is nothing to shout about food-wise although they are quite reasonably priced for lunch and dinner. There was also free internet and laptops lying around that you can use for no extra charge, just ask the staff to give you the password and login. All in all, great for people just wanting to head to Bangkok to spend all their money shopping and sightseeing and not wanting to worry that their scrimping on accomodation will cause them to end up someplace dingy. Definitely recommended, as we had resources freed up to spend on other stuff in Bangkok.

I booked this hotel based on previous reviews. I made the reservation through bookings.com and only later found out that hotels.com got a better rate offered, so I do suggest that you compare prices on various sites first.

I have to say that this hotel is very convenient , provided you use the BTS skytrain as your main transportation. They have an entrance through their coffee shop which leaves you right next to skytrain escalator. However, if you are taking taxi, you may have to print out the map of the hotel in thai. My taxi driver from airport to hotel has had problem finding it since the main entrance was at the end of an alley.

The room was small but reasonably comfortable. They have good closet space and free wifi service in room. The quilt was very comfortable but their pillows are a bit too hard for a small size Asian girl. The only thing that really bothers me is their airconditioning vent which were located right above your head on top of the bed. It kept blowing strong gust of wind throughout the evening which I found very uncomfortable.

Afterall, the rate is only Baht 1990 per night including breakfast and I have to say that this is still a good deal.

You really can’t beat the value and location this hotel offers. I visit Bangkok frequently and I’ve stayed in many hotels and this is by far the best value for the money. Beyond that, the staff was friendly and helpful, the food in the cafeteria was great and the rooms were exceptionally clean.
