“A very special place! Unique in Bangkok”
Reviewed January 2, 2011

I come to Bangkok a lot and I've been trying out many different small hotels. With Sam Sen I think I've found the right one! It's a small typical Thai house off a big road, a 5/7 min walk from noisy Kao San Road. The street is pleasant and quiet, which is quite rare in Bangkok (there's a big monks' house in the front so I think that contributes to the peacefulness). I stayed almost 9 days in this hotel and I slept in three different rooms (initially I had planned to stay only for 4 days, then I extended my trip). All the rooms I stayed in had a private bathroom. The rooms are very clean, nicely decorated and they all have a homely feeling . They can be a little small so if you're looking for lots of space, this might not be the hotel for you. The special president room is obviously larger, with a huge bathroom, but keep in mind this is more a guesthouse than a real hotel, so the style is consistently "simple". I really liked the place because it makes you feel at home and in a big chaotic city like Bangkok, this is a rarity! The only downsides are: the wooden walls (or should I say panels?) that separate the rooms are quite thin so if your neighbor is noisy you might have trouble sleeping. Plus there is no real restaurant service, which can be a little disappointing after a long day. In any case, thank you to the friendly staff and I will be back soon!

Tucked away in a quiet side street near the river but all the attractions, palaces, temples, shops, nightlife etc within easy reach. Cozy, comfortable, spotless room. Plenty of hot water. Good choice of breakfasts and very friendly, helpful staff. Excellent for traveller on a budget.
Pity there was no tea/coffee facilities in the room - only downside!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Samsen Sam Palace. Its a little bit more outside, but just a few steps. Kao san Road is in near walking distance (10-15min). The staff is very helpful and tried everything to make us satisfied. The room is quite nice with a modern bathroom. Only the view from the window was really boring because of another bulding right beside ours. If we stay in Bangkok again we would choose this guesthouse again. The breakfast was great too.

We thought the guest house was well-located for seeing the old parts of Bangkok and getting to the river taxies. Nice staff and very cute rooms with big, modern bathrooms. Sadly construction started at 730 am on Saturday morning outside our window. It appeared to be related to the guest house but we were not made aware that it would be happening at all. Otherwise a great place and would be fine without the wet saws!

We are staying here the second time, the hotel's name is just the street name which means sam sen road number three,so if you take a tuktuk or taxi saying the hotel's name is enough...it is located in a prime location close to the main road, yet it is very quiet that in the daytime you can feel the ring of silentness, the staff will try to answer all your question, khao san road is within walking distance, and by walking 3 minutes one can take a direct bus going to weekend market (chatuchak),but make sure you come back before the traffic is getting bad otherwise it will take one and a half hour to get back,if you are going to chinatown or pratunam area take a tuktuk,at night there is a premium seafood restaurant by the river,in the afternoon you can go to public park near the river, buy a big cup of thai style ice coffee and sit in the park watching leisure activities, actually there are food at practically every time of the day within the area, but since in sam sen sam a nice breakfast is provided so we can eat before going out..there is a shift of staff for office hour and after office hour which speak good english, but if you arrive late at night the staff speak limited english, but in the weekend when the staff is off the owner will help you if you need something..try the upstair room which is beautifully designed..if you stay at the room downstair some times there is a step sound coming from the guest who come back late at night, but if you sleep easily it is not a big problem...the other nice things like perfectly clean bed linen and nice TV shows from your room just compensate that :)

My husband and I stayed at Sam Sen Sam Place at the beginning and end of an 18-day trip to SE Asia, and we sincerely enjoyed our stay. The rooms are impeccably clean and comfortable, the location is great, and the staff was incredibly kind and hospitable. Thailand is known for its kind, welcoming people, but the staff at Sam Sen Sam Place were exceptionally so.

We stayed in two different rooms (the Peach and the Blueberry), and both were excellent. Their bathrooms were the absolute cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen, and they came well-stocked with all the expected amenities. Every room has a TV, a fridge, and plenty of room for two reasonable travelers. For around 30 baht, you can have your laundry done and delivered to your room, a welcome service for those who are trying to travel light. The breakfast was also nice and they offered a number of options. Also, there's a great little spot just down the street (go left out the door about 15-20 meters and it's on the right) that has nice coffee and tea. One morning, we went there to catch some coffee before an early morning water taxi ride up to Nonthaburi and the owner brought us some amazing fried dough from a nearby street vendor. The whole neighborhood is very welcoming and quiet, and you're close to a number of good restaurants, bars, and shops, and you're a 5 minute walk to the water taxi stop.

If I am lucky enough to go to Bangkok again, I will surely stay here again, and I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a nice, quiet, safe place to stay that is convenient to all of the major sights in Bangkok.

We stayed at Sam Sen Sam Place for three nights and found it to be very pleasant. It is located in a quiet area near the Khao San Road which is just what we were looking for. We stayed in a room with AC (we upgraded to this as it was 35 degrees when we arrived) and shared bathroom. Both the room, and the bathroom and showers, were very clean and although they were just outside our room, there was no noise from other guests using the facilities. We also had free wi-fi on the room which was really helpful for organising the rest of our trip. The only downside with the room was that it was quite small, which is not bad in itself, but rather there was a lack of place to hang items such as clothes, towels etc. The breakfast was nice, with a choice of three options, and was served in the lovely leafy surroundings downstairs. The staff were helpful when we sought assistance and there are also two very cute dogs. Sam Sen Sam Place was a welcome reprieve from a busy Bangkok.
