“Good hotel, good staff, but expensive WIFI”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

We stayed at Novotel silom for 5 days, and have good time explore Bangkok. But they do not have free wifi, and instead is a prepaid system, which is a bit expensive for internet connection. The staff has friendly attitude.

i can't help but think that the room we stayed in, "a junior suite," was a bit on the small side, having been in Bangkok before. The Novotel is nice and elegant even if most of the features were functional. The bath had a glass wall that could be made transparent or opaque with one touch of a button - a welcome feature for people traveling with friends or other people other than their significant other. = )

the hotel is located on the quieter end of Silom, a good 15-20 minute walk from the Sala Daeng, where all the action is, however there's always a convenience store and nice restaurants nearby.

Service is good, but could be better - anyone travelling to a non-english country would know how frustrating it is to talk to the staff for anything. I wonder why Novotel hasn't trained their staff better at handling english-speaking guests.

all in all it was a good stay.

I stayed at this hotel last year and loved everything about it (especially the friendly service I encountered in all areas). Then I stayed this year from 02Nov for 9 nights and was terribly disappointed by the decline in the service levels from the front desk staff and decided I would no longer stay here, nor recommend it to colleagues or friends. I indicated this on my last survey/ review just 2 weeks ago and thought that would be the end of my stays at this hotel. Shortly after that last review I received a reply from the Hotel's General Manager indicating that management were just embarking on a change to the front desk management and staff and that things should change for the better as a consequence. I decided to give the hotel another chance and stayed again on 23Nov for 2 nights. Oh what a difference. On arrival went to check in at front desk and was then immediately taken up to the executive club ( I am platinum Accor but this service was not even hinted at this hotel before even though it is standard practice in most other hotels). The staff member that greeted me was friendly from first contact and this friendliness and professional attitude continued for the rest of the stay. As a side note I also noticed management supervising the quality of buffet breakfast food and also at the club during the evening drinks period- a very welcome development.
I am very impressed by the improvements I have noticed in just 2 weeks.
I can say that I am again comfortable to recommend the Novotel Bangkok Fenix Silom.

Stayed here for 4 nights, very good hotel in great location. The staff were helpful and polite which you would expect from a good Bangkok hotel. Only issues we found were the rooms were very compact, which wasn't a problem for 4 nights, not sure I'd want to stay longer though!!
When we checked in we were told breakfast was included but then when we went to breakfast they told us we had to pay. Definately not worth paying nearly £20 for the breakfast they charged us when there are plenty of coffee shops, cafe's and restaurants who only charge £5 nearby. Also the internet there is a bit of a con at 400 TBH per day if you want it in your room although you can have it free for one hour per day in the lobby if you want to check emails etc so the choice is yours.
Used the pool for 1/2 hour as it was small and constantly shaded oh and very small.

All in all it was a good hotel but I feel there are better hotels in the area for the price with better facilities so we won't be staying here again.

I booked for a 7 night stay at the Novotel Silom. Overall, I found the room compact but clean and fairly well appointed. They have a good selection of TV channels and a pretty decent breakfast selection. The location is a bit of a problem. Being located in Silom, the taxi and tul tuk drivers kept insisting on exorbitant flat rate fares instead of going by the meter. I had an instance when I caught a taxi in front of the hotel and after going on for about 2 blocks, he did not turn on the meter and insisted on THB200 to get to Central in Ploenchit. When I said no, he dropped me off and I had to walk back to the hotel. Returning was also a problem as almost all the taxi drivers wanted at least THB150 to get back from Siam Paragon to Novotel citing traffic jams etc.etc.. Several times, I elected to take the BTS instead and walk back from Surasak station in the heat because of the extortion. I had initially wanted to book the Novotel Ploenchit but somehow mistakenly booked the Silom location and paid for it in advance. Will I go back? no because of the difficulty in getting transport. I would pick the Ploenchit Novotel which is right by the BTS Ploenchit. Cuts the hassle of dishonest taxi drivers.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor as the hotel is right by the expressway. Can be noisy if you are on the lower...
