We stayed here for 3 nights in early Jan 09. The location for Tuptim is really good for walking to the main sites like The Grand Palace, Reclining Budhha etc. Also if nightlife's your thing then its a minute or so walk to the Khaosan road. The rooms are basically four walls and a bed. The bathroom/shower is shared as well but everything is kept spotless so its okay. This would all be fine if it weren't for the fact its seriously overpriced and the hotel staff are trying to get more money out of you at every opportunity. We had to pay 30 baht per day for the safe deposit boxes, 200 baht for towels and the straw the really broke the camels back for me was that there were no plugs in the bedrooms so you had to pay 20baht an hour to charge something at reception!? I've been to some really poor hostel/guesthouses around the world but I've never been charged for electricity!?
The restaurant attached to the guest was also horrendously overpriced and some nights we even ate right next door in view of the staff who had been trying to convince us to eat at Tuptim. After 3 nights we had a look around at some of the other guesthouses on Rhambuttri street and from what we saw they were all the same quality but cheaper and you didnt have to pay for basic stuff like electricity and towels. In the end we figured we had seen all there was to see in that area of Bangkok and decided to move to the other side of the city where we had a nicer room for less than half the price of Tuptim.
