My friend & I stayed at the NRGH for two nights at the end of October. General set up was good & the staff really friendly and helpful. It was an ok location & near transport links, cost around 150 Baht to get a tuk tuk to Khoasan Road.

We stayed in a standard double room with private ensuite. I can't say I loved the room, it was small and hadn't been used for a while so smelt musty! Bathroom was a wet room with a temperamental sliding door. My friend got bitten hundreds of times but we think these were mosquito bites over bedbugs. Bed linen wasn't overly clean though.

We are heading back to Bangkok at the end of our trip.... We've booked to stay elsewhere.

Dear Travelers,

Thank you for staying with us and for taking your time reviewing our little place.

Not least, we are glad that you found our place okay and staff friendly and helpful. And that you noticed the fine location and convenience to transport links, which we find of great importance in often traffic jammed Bangkok.

As for the rooms, we are sorry if it didn’t live up to expectation as well as your inconvenience with mosquitos. Our guesthouse is a long running property in an old neighbourhood with a small green common area. An asset in our opinion, but also one that demands for constant maintenance. We always strive to keep rooms and property inviting, clean and pleasant to guests. This goes for daily cleaning, returning “spring cleanings” and constant fixtures of smaller and larger things.
Relating to the bed linen we use a reliable and reputable laundry company and have mostly been satisfied with their service. Hence, we are sorry if the bedding did not live up to expectations and we will look into the matter to increase standards.
For mosquitoes, we have a fixed monthly prevention and treatment process installed as well as mosquito coils available for outside use. In general we keep a sharp eye on insects and bugs and believe in prevention in all ways possible.

As for our rooms, we are aware that some backpacker rooms are quite small, which is also why they come with a smaller price tag of 250-550 THB per room per night. We also have more spacious standard and superior rooms, which cost slightly more. This is based on a philosophy that we want to cater to all budgets and comfort levels.

Overall, we are sorry that we did not manage to live up to your expectation, but we appreciate the feedback and will use it constructively to improve.

I wish you a safe onwards journey and hope you are enjoying your travels in Thailand.

We had a really good price for a double standard room. The room was basic but clean and it has everything we needed. The communal area was nice and there were a lot of young people hanging out. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also provided us with useful tips an info. There was actually a "info meeting" every day for all the guests. Good location and 15 mins walk from the sky train station.

If you are a non-smoker, I will not stay at this place at all. Not now not ever. I had been staying at this place for 4 days and it's the worst time of my life.

Why?

1) It seems like almost all of their staffs are a smoker, especially cook and waitresses. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to handle my food if they are a smoker. I saw these people many times walking out of the kitchen to smoke and went back in. I certainly hope that they wash their hands every single time, but I doubt that. There is no smoking area, so everyone can just smoke anywhere and anytime. The smoking smell is really bad and I got a headache for most of the time I was at the hotel.

2) The price for the room is around $40 at this place I would call this very expensive. The room is small for a $40 price tag and certainly not clean. For example, a really nice hotel that I stayed on Silom only costed me $30 a night. Also, it's so much easier to commute to any other places than staying here.

3) The smell of the cat poops are unbearable. There are like 10 cats here that were fed every single day by the hotel staffs. The cats are not trained, so they just pooped anywhere they wanted. I don't hate cats, but the poop smell??? It's unthinkable. These staffs just keep feeding and feeding these cats all day and it didn't seem that any of these staffs want to clean up all the poops.

4) With the prices of the food and drink this hotel has been charging, I would rather eating out at nicer restaurant. Why eat here when you can get the exact value for the money you receive with a restaurant quality.

5) One last thing, every single night the cats just kept fighting to each other for apparently no reasons at 2, 3 or 4 am. It's just so hard to sleep.

It's just so painful staying here.

Room Tip: Room quality in the picture isn't the same as the actual quality.

Dear Traveler,

Thank you very much for your candid review and honest feedback. We regret that you had this experience and perception about our place. We choose to take this as areas for improvements, while we also take the opportunity to explain our philosophy.

In essence we are more than a place to stay. We strive to create a home to travellers; their comfort zone in Asia. Based on this thinking, we welcome travellers on all budgets and provide everything from FREE accommodation at our rooftop hammocks over dorm beds at around 250 THB/8 USD and private ensuite rooms from THB 550/17 USD. Only our superior rooms and roof top apartment comes at rates starting from THB 1250/40 USD. Regardless of room choice, we provide a range of free services such as 24 hours free coffee and tea, free shower and towels after checkout, free luggage storage, Internet, Lonely Planet travel library and much more.
Location wise we are situated very conveniently for both the river boats (10 mins walk), Sky Train (15 mins walk), Silom road (5 minutes walk) and Hua Lamphong Central Train Station (just a 10 minute taxi-ride down the road, depending on traffic).
By combining our accommodation, extra services and location we strive to offer good value for the money paid and we are sorry if we did not succeed in meeting your expectations in this regard.

We have for long had a “house cat”, which has never been an issue for neighbours, staff or guests. Quite the opposite actually. Recently we have experienced an increase in the number of stray cats, which is unfortunately a problem in Thailand. Based on our own observations and your feedback we have taken the consequence and given the cats up for adoption and are in contact with an NGO organisation focusing on stray cats. We hope this should offset the issue you describe while still respecting animal rights. Overall, we are sorry about your experience and as stated, have already made a conscious choice for the benefit of our guests, staff and cats.

In regards to smoking, this is a personal matter, however, when carried out during work hours it is of great concern to us. Personal hygiene is our first and foremost priority, especially when handling food and rest assured that clearly defined procedures are installed in this regard. Based on your feedback we have also underscored and reminded of designated smoking areas and took the opportunity to revise and update our internal guidelines.

Overall, I can only say that we are sorry that we did not live up to your expectations. We though value your feedback and as highlighted, we have used it internally to improve.
I wish you a safe onwards journey.

The Guesthouse is in a great area, and downtown bangkok and close to the Sky Train Saphan Taksin. There are some markets down the street that have some tasty food. However if you are looking for value for money this is not it. The guesthouse tourism service is over priced and the tours are 500baht more expensive then some of the places that are down the road, 5 min walk turning right out of the guesthouse drive. The Breakfast was priced at 160 baht per person for what looked like a mediocre breakfast at the least, on top of an over priced room at 950baht per night. Over all not impressed with the Guesthouse NOT good value for money. There are much better places down the road including breakfast, hot shower and under 600baht.

We stayed in this guesthouse for 1 week at the beginning of our backpacking travells around SE Asia. We liked the location as it was in a downtown of Bangkok with many places to eat and good connections to other parts of the city. Chinatown within walking distance and train station just 10 min taxi ride costing 50baht with metered taxi.

Both roof terrace and outside communal areas were good to relax. The place was generally clean, taking constant turnover of tourists.

However, I would not reccomend the room we had chosen. It was budget twin room with fan and shared toilet costing around 300BHT. It did not have window, was very small and the beds extremely uncomfortable and noisy. You could hear all the beds from the floor making terrible noise every time somebody moved. Lack of sleep was not worth the price...

Wifi only worked near reception area.
