“Quiet oasis in a bustling city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2009

We stopped for one night in Bangkok on our way to Europe. My wife does a lot of research to find the most suitable places to book for our holiday accommodation etc. Her efforts paid off yet again because the VIE Hotel was a great choice.
They upgraded us to a suite and so we spent the night in spacious luxury. The suite had two widescreen TVs, a large sitting room, spacious bathroom, etc. I wish we could stay in such luxury all the time.
The hotel seems to be quite new. It is located near the centre of the city, close to a metro railway station and close to some major shopping centres.
We were very impressed with the hotel's restaurant. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast in the restaurant.
In the lobby, they provided free WiFi access but I sometimes had trouble getting a connection.
Bangkok is such a frantic, busy place. It seems that every taxi driver has a cousin who owns a jewelry store or a tailor shop and so the taxi driver wants to take you to his cousin's shop rather than where you want to go.
When we arrived safely back at our hotel after each outing, we felt that we were right at home. It was like a safe haven away from the heat and the traffic.

We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite with a great view over the city. Huge living area, very comfortable beds, chocolates on the pillow each night. Excellent breakfast and we also enjoyed free Wi-Fi and "Thai tapas" with drinks in the lobby 6-8pm..Skytrain station a few steps away, and the beautiful Jim Thompson house a 10 minute walk along a small khlong.
19 yo son enjoyed live music in the "Rock Pub" next door every night..highly recommended as a top spot to stay in Bangkok

We stay at Vie for only one night as a buffer stop to Hua Hin. And the hotel was totally exceed our expectation. The location of the hotel was wonderful. Walking distance to Siam shopping district, just cross a bridge, about 5 mins walk to Siam center. And the hotel set right next to the BTS stop, 1 or 2 mins walk. The quality of breakfast was best we ever had. And the decor of the room was decent. Beautiful design and had a great view from the room. We were also upgraded to suite.

Spa was okay. But, the hotel was very generous to gave a 50% discount! so, can't complaint. Service was great.

will surly stay there longer next time.

Stay here for 3 nights, had no problems locating the hotel. It's useful that it is opposite Asia Hotel and right next to the Ratchathewi BTS station (very convenient). Cab fare to the hotel was about 250THB plus a 50THB surcharge (note that the driver did not take any expressways so we did not incur any toll, might be because traffic at that time of the day was not too bad). Cab fare back to the airport cost 350THB in total.

Check in was smooth, welcome drink served helped too.Had an upgrade to a suite, it was very spacious/gorgeous. Had a good view of the pool and main road and the room was surprisingly quiet despite the hustle and bustle outside. Service was impeccable and discreet, staff were friendly.

Had breakfast included, quality and variety were decent. They have an in house spa, gym and rooftop (of adjacent building) pool. Gym was quite nice and well equipped. Did not get a chance to go for a dip or try their spa services though the pool looked inviting.
Rooms/bathrooms were very clean, everything was quite new and in good condition. The very comfortable bed and heavy curtains which shut out all light helped us get a very good sleep. Wireless internet in the room is available at a fee, but there's is a 'business' floor where you could access it free.

Location of the hotel was a major plus point. It's a stone's throw away from the Ratchathewi station, one stop away (or a 10 min walk) from Siam (where shopping can be done at Siam Paragon, Siam Square, MBK etc). You could also cab elsewhere as the hotel is pretty central and accessible, wouldn't cost much to do so.

We have just stayed at Vie for a total of 8 nights... 2 lots of 4 with a week in Hong Kong in between. We absolutely LOVED it. We arrived in the wee small hours of the morning, were met and tranferred by the hotel limo and driver and on arrival greeted by a receptionist who was as fresh and friendly as someone who may have just begun a 1000 a.m. shift. Our room was stunning! HUGE... comfy beds...beautiful inen.... quiet. We also noted a few minor dings and bruises in such a new building [ as noted by previous reviews ] but felt kind of sad that other guests had probably not treated the accommodation with the respect and it deserved[?]
Meals were excellent. Breakfasts had everything you could want, and the dinners we had were delightful - especially the a la carte [steaks...dare i say.... were unreal!!]
Service all round was without fault - not over-the-top "cheesy" but discreet, quiet and calm.
I agree that tuk-tuks and cabs were not generally familiar with the hotel, but either showing the hotel card and or explaining that it was opposite the "Asia" got you back safely and quickly.
The decor......YUM!!!!!
Vie spa...... Mmmmmm!!!
My only minor suggestions: make it known that you have access to tours by way of contacting the Concierge AND include a hairdryer and adaptor in each room.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2009

Just returned from a lovely stay of 4 nights at this great hotel. Great package of stay 4 nights 1 night free, and to make it even better, they upgraded us to a corner deluxe suite! Such a large living area, 2 flat screen Tvs, huge bathroom, very comfy bed & pillows, 3 bottles of mineral water daily, turn-down treats every night. It was my husband's birthday the following day, and he got a cake which was delivered to the room while we were away! We loved the gym, state of the art equipment, makes working out a real pleasure, my husband especially loved the large flat screen tvs (at least 5) there. Wanted to try the spa, but couldn't accommodate us, perhaps next time. There's happy hr for the spa from 10am to 1pm at 25% disc I think. We tried the wine tasting at the lobby bar at 400bht. Great deal! 3 glasses of wine (about 1/3 of the glass), you can choose reds & whites, comes with 3 canapes, and we were told to help ourselves to the tapas bar as well. Wonderful! That made a lovely light dinner in itself!! No time to try the high tea (that's another good deal!). Lobby staff were very well-trained, had the door opened even though we weren't that near yet! When our horrible cab driver dropped us off at the opposite side of the road (heavy traffic, light drizzle and he ripped us off as well! He covered his meter with a large clothe and we couldn't see it, but though airport taxis from the official taxi stand should be safe, huh!) and only revealed when he insisted that we get off at the Asia hotel, opposite the Vie. Charged us 650bht and we gave 500bht which he didn't argue, so we knew we were still ripped off, cos it should cost about 350 to 400 bht with heavy traffic) and we had to lug 2 large bags up the BTS station across the walkway above the road, and down the stairs, heading towards the driveway of the hotel, the bellboys (in suits too!) came running out of the hotel to the main road to assist us! Impressive! That's what I call service! All in all, we really enjoyed the hotel. Breakfast spread was good, although the staff here need a bit more training (forgot to bring the tea, not seating the guests promptly for bf, not clearing tables faster). We've read the previous reviews on this hotel before we came. The only negative thing we do agree is that the bathroom probably needs some maintenance. The handheld shower in the shower stall was definitely inferior. The water gushes out on the sides instead of the shower spray (no matter how I tried to push back in the shower spray thingy), giving me a large cold spray of water each time! The shower stall door & toilet door need muscles to open & close!! I had to use my body to push the doors open and close cos those glass doors are heavy and stiff. The hinges are really stiff, perhaps some oiling would help.
Great location turn right from hotel, and you're at the BTS station, turn left and a 10 minute walk gets you to Siam Discovery and all those big malls. In the evenings, turn right, there's a stall with a nice lady selling noodle soup at a small lane, delicious soup! 30bht for a bowl, either chicken or meat balls. Cross over the road using the BTS walkway, and there's a good pad thai and mussel omelette stall (service is fast! and food is fresh and good-about 30bht each), also noticed some noodle stalls which we didn't try. Too full! Went to one of the massage places next to this eating area, worse I've ever had! I've never been to any massage where I keep watching the clock for it to end. Damp towels were placed on me (yuk!) during the massage session and after it was over, my husband and I had itchy bites on the body (double yuk!). We were trying to get out of the rain after a late dinner on the first night, so we didn't have much choice. So beware!
This hotel at the present promotion, is great value and the location is wonderful, away from the crowds, yet very central.

We stayed at Vie after having had 8 days at a gorgeous resort in Phuket. Booked directly via the internet, paid $3466B I think. Vie was beautiful, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a corner suite, it was huge and the amenities all top class. I thought the quality of the room was very good, it didnt appear cheap as some other posters have pointed out? But of course everyone has their own view and standards.

We had the high tea down in the lobby bar, which was very nice, although I dont think I would do it again, not a huge selection, and I was worried a little that the food was just out on display, not chilled or covered in anyway for the 2 hours that this little special is available.

We went for a quick shop down at MBK, literally a 5 minute walk away.

When we came back we decided to have a cocktail down in the lobby bar and they were advertising, buy a drink and get free tapas. sounds nice, but again, much the same as the high tea, just all out on display. I think it would have been nicer if at least some of the tapas were hot and served to you after ordering a drink and once again, my issue about the food just being on display, uncovered or unchilled.

We had a room service dinner quite late after more shopping, it was fast and good.

We used the business centre which had a couple of computers for free internet so that we could do an internet flight check in.

We had breakfast in the dining room, a buffet, the staff were very good at letting us know about this, as at first we had decided we would probably not do the buffet and have an a la carte breakfast. But we couldnt pass on the price which was good value at $300B each from memory. A good selection, but you order your bacon and eggs, if you want them, separately as opposed to them being on the actual buffet!. Good idea!

We were able to have a slightly later checkout which was handy, the plan being that we would do some shopping in the morning then come back and freshen up and pack up. After shopping, we decided to taxi back to the hotel (sore feet) thinking we had plenty of time, however we got a rogue metered taxi who went the wrong way (deliberately I think) and then we got stuck in traffic, so we got back to the hotel right when we needed to be checked out.. Luckily we were able to use the Fitness Centre to freshen up. Lessen in this one, get the name of the hotel written in Thai on a card so that you can show the driver, showing them where to on a map doesnt always work out and just be aware where they might be taking you, as they are quick to scam you - the lowlight of that particular trip, was when the driver stopped and got out to take a pee against a tree! we ended up paying up to that point and walking back because the traffic was so backlogged.

I noticed that Qantas flight crew stay at this hotel.

All in all, an excellent stay and I would recommend it and return. Staff all very friendly and helpful.
