On a recent visit to Bangkok, our normal home away from home on Soi Kasemsan 1 was undergoing renovations, so for about the same price we chose Patumwan House, at the end of the same soi.
Firstly we love the Soi as it is close to the National Stadium BTS station, MBK shopping centre, Paragon etc. It is also quiet and has a great selection of food stall as well as a 711 at the corner.
Patumwan House, is an older, but well kept establishment which I think was fomerly an apartment block. Covering 8 floors and serviced by 2 lifts, Patumwan, whilst a bit dated is kept in immaculate condition, has quite large rooms and is served by amazingly helpful and friendly staff. Our room on the 8th floor was very large, with polished wooden floors, a small kitchenette with full size fridge/freezer, barthroom (with bath) and a balcony. Only problem was access to the balcony was via the window, which was a bit of a pain, but we became quite adept and the views were great. I hasten to add, some rooms had doors to the balcony. Our bed was large and comfortable in that Thai way, and when we asked reception for a couple extra pillows, they were supplied immediately. The rooms were serviced daily.
Whilst we didn't get breakfast with our room, there is a small cafe off the lobby, that serves meals and drinks.
All in all, a great little spot, with fantastic staff, the only downside for us was the lack of a pool. Never the less, it will be problematic on our next visit, move back to our regular hotel or move down the soi to Patumwan House.
Enjoy your travels.
