I've tried many restaurants in Bangkok but i want to share my opinion about the Tom Yum Kung.
To be honest if i could choose, there are better restaurants all over the city.
But most of the backpackers end up staying in this area and a lot of people pass by for some shopping or a cheap massage so:
- the little backyard is really peacefull compared to khao san road and so it's a nice place where to have a break during your visit.
- is indicated for those (most of the people coming to Thailand for a 2-3 week holiday) who like thai food but in the "more european" version. The tom yum soup and the curries are ok.
- regarding the service it's (as many other placese in Bangkok) random: sometimes you'll get a very nice waiter sometimes a very rude one.
- It is for sure too expensive compared to the quality but again most of the restaurants in the area serve western food and very low quality asian food.
so in conclusion if you like real thai food and you are not planning to spend all your time in khao san road then there are better options, but if you end up staying there and you don't fancy the street markets food, then it is a better option than most of the places in the area.
