A nice plate of Indian food.
Good value for money.
A bit hard to find but I finally was able to manage.
In a street which many won't like.

We stumbled upon the original Royal India restaurant while exploring the Phahurat market area. Was pleasantly surprised to find read the newspaper clippings hanging next to our table, which explained that it was the first Indian restaurant in Thailand and has received many critical accolades. We ordered the palak paneer, bhartha, rice, and butter naan. The bhartha was excellent - certainly the best I've ever had. Our palak paneer included a generous dosing of a spice that I wasn't used to, and I'm not sure exactly what it was. It wasn't bad, just foreign to me. The butter naan was delicious. The entrees were very affordable - about $3 USD each.

We ended at their branch #1 next to china town after checking TA and though the place itself was nothing to remember we were deligthed with the food. We are very fond of indian food and our choice was a bit of a struggle but decided for samosas, chicken in butter sauce, mutton curry and dal makami, all dishes super savory and in the rigt amount for 3 people. The salted laksis were freshly made and very refreshing. And to top it off the bill, very un-expensive and significantly lower than the other branches.

I am one of those people that need the desi food fix when I go on a holiday. We visited this place when we came to Thailand in 2008 and we were disappointed.
2013 is a new Royal India, the place could use a little upkeep but the food was just delicious. Highly recommend the achari chicken!!

Really tired after a shopping spree in Phahurat and unwilling to hunt down a highly rated restaurant, we went in the first place we saw where we might find some vegetarian food. This restaurant is in a small alley and looks very shady from outside. The ambiance too isn't noteworthy, although the place was clean. But the food is quite decent and the prices are reasonable. The chapattis were specially nice and they seem to have a nice spread of Indian sweets as well.
