“Not perfect but probably the best deal for the price”
Reviewed January 3, 2010

Having been forewarned about the obscure location I didn't have much trouble locating it behind Citismart Condo at the mouth of Soi 18 (actually relatively convenient to Asok BTS, via the Exchange Tower building on Asok intersection - go up to the second floor for the walkway connecting to the station). One overhead bridge walk away from Soi Cowboy, if that rocks your boat. Lots of good food stalls on the main soi outside, if you are ok eating street food.

Rooms were cosy but well furnished and new, and this is the major attraction to this hotel. You would be hard pressed to find such cosy rooms for the price in the heart of Suklhumvit. Some small technical issues like some lights not working etc but they offered to fix them pronto.

Bed was well made-up, but slightly hard (not in a good way, just in a cheap material way). DVD player was a welcome touch, and very necessary as the selection of TV channels was dire. Bathroom small but completely adequate, with a bathtub to boot.

Cleanliness was acceptable if not impeccable as there were often traces of stray hairs on the floor etc., but mostly everything was very well maintained. Just investing in a vacuum cleaner would do the trick (as I suspect they use a broom).

My biggest, and probably only, major complaint is with the hot water shower. Water pressure is adequate, not great. Controlling the temperature is an exercise in futility. Warm water would run for a minute, then turn scalding hot, and 30 seconds later, the water would turn ice cold and to reactivate the heater, one would have to turn off the water for a few minutes. Perhaps it was only my room, but I was reluctant to complain and change.

The key point here is that if you are looking in the 1200 - 1400 baht range, this is likely your best bet. Hardly any problems, and the superb price justifies any other minor shortcomings, which 500-700 baht more a night in a better place would spare you from. Definitely a strong contender within this price range, now that the Ibis hotels seem to have upped their rates (and offer very little extra for the money).

To be fair to Darjelling Hotel, I'd start with CONs, so I can end with PROs.
I was in room 203 (windowless-my choice so I don't need to worry about sunlight in the morning and windowless rooms are quiet).
CONs:
1) As mentioned by a reveiwer earlier, the hot shower system does need some work. The hot shower unit is under the sink, you'd know if it's activated when you turn on the hot water tap, there'd be a click. When it doesn't work in the shower side, I can trick it to activate by turning on the hot water tap at the sink. BUT LO AND BEHOLD, 2nd night at 1am, taking a shower, the whole electrical circuit in my room tripped. I notified the desk staff, who incidentally have no idea what I was talking about, eventually about half hour later ask me to switch room at 1am. I think the shower caused the electrical failure. They switch us to next room 204.
2) To my dismay, 204 has a window (normal thin glass, 1 layer), which window lie just inches away from the exhaust chute where the exhaust fan was. When the exhause fan was on, it sounds like a nearby helicopter. Heck, I'm glad they only switch it on when they cook. Just, what were they cooking at 1am. Good thing is, after 10 minutes or so, they switched it off. The helicopter returned in the morning when they cook for guests. Quite early I might add.
3) Speaking of cooking, they serve pretty good breakfast in the morning with a respectable selection. So it's PROs right? Wrong, while food is good, it takes too long for them to serve us our "fancy" breakfast. They pride themselves in service, so the bring out the "coffee" first,................................................... (indefinite time later) comes the 4 pieces of cut fruit (usually watermelon),................................... (even longer later) comes the main breakfast dish (which I ordered either noodle or fried rice). Perhaps it's my choice, stir fried stuff, takes long time, NOPE, my spouse ordered the bread, ham and egg option, took the same or longer time. And the breakfast dining area you see in theor website, take it literally, it's just that 4 tables set up in a 10' X 12' floor. The longer I had to wait for my breakfast, the longer I see other guests had to wait for us to vacate. They also had that picture at website of table at the terrace, which is basically a 4 foot walkway tiny area, out right beside the road, in the ammonia and urine smelling street. I see a guest seating there, after 2 minutes decided to vacate and return to room. No one else sat outside. So, my complaint is, too long to serve simple breakfast.

Now for the good stuff.
1) Location is quite good, though walk to BTS involved 10 minutes, up the stairs, enough to work up a sweat, but really location is good.
2) Staff try very hard to please and serve you, though it took too long for breakfast and obviously some problem with simple english.
3) The rates are very reasonable as it's new, comfortably furnished with nice cold air conditioning.

I would return to stay, mainly due to value and location. I don't expect to pay THB1,350 and expect 5 star service, it's really a nice comfy place to return to.. kinda place. So it's no Sheraton and don't expect perfection.

But seriously though, while the breakfast is good, it takes too long to serve. Remember, you're not in Rizt Carlton, in this place, you basically want to eat and drink your coffee and GO.

Well, decided upon this place..due to the price..1350 baht a night..and the location

Upon arrival, hard to locate. Alot of my friends also had a hard time finding the place. But, its new..and located in a quiet courtyard..so..understandable

Anyway, clean rooms, good a/c..nice tv with enough channels

Beds were comfortable, daily room cleaning

Breakfast was very good, fried rice with an egg, fresh fruits, and juice/coffee. or, you could choose american breakfast

Pool was pretty small, not that enjoyable..would be great as a hottub

Free internet in the lobby, which was useful

Its a pretty small hotel, with limited services..more of a guesthouse

So, if your looking for privacy..look elsewhere

But, if you just need

-clean bed
-good location
-tasty breakfast

at a good rate..this place might work for you

Considering the price of the Hotel, it is a very good value. I stayed in Bangkok many times in more expensive hotels, which were run down, but this place is clean, modern and got a good location. If you pay only THB 1350, you can not expect a five star treatment. I will stay here again, if I am just looking for cheap accommodation, with no extra service required. If you are looking for a place with pool, it is definetely not this Hotel.

I spent days researching hotels to stay at in BKK. I decided on this one as well as Sacha's Uno Hotel. The room was small but clean, modern, and safe...with no bugs insight. Inside of this room was nicer then Sacha's but I like the location of Sacha's Hotel better. This hotel was a little hard for the taxi driver's to find. Great free breakfast though and very helpful friendly staff. Room had a safe in the closet which is a must.
Bathroom was neat and modern. I would stay again. It's also less expensive then Sacha's. Nice TV as well. They have a small indoor pool but I never used it and never saw anyone in it. This was right before the riots happened. All of Bangkok seemed a bit quite at the time.
