On my last night in Bangkok, I decided to treat myself to an upscale restaurant. Breeze at Lebua State Tower did not fail to deliver. Let's start with the surroundings; an open air restaurant on one of the top floors of the Lebua tower can only mean one thing, incredible panoramas.

The service has to be the most attentive I have ever received from being guided to my table by a hostess lighting up my every step with a hand held torch to the waiting staff's meticulous attention to detail. A lot of training has gone into the service and it is highly polished.

I chose the discovery menu with the wine pairings and was not dissapointed, 7 courses in all including amuse bouche and petit fours. The food is a mix of asian and european influences and was executed to a very high level, not quite Michelin star level but not too far off.

My only criticism - the price. The most expensive meal I have ever paid for by a long way, suffice to say you could eat at Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck twice over for the same price.

I would recommend Breeze as a one off experience. If you want to witness the views without the hefty bill simply head to The Sky Bar for some sun downers, although be aware of the dress code.

We were 4 adults in Bangkok looking to go to a great restuarant at night. Breeze was recommended. Smartly dressed for an evening out, we walked up the the lift lobby, where the receptionsist told me that my smart hard leather sandals were unacceptable. All toes had to be covered. So I went down the road and bought a pair of tacky, glitzy 200 bhat (£5) trainers, which then allowed me entry. Bizarre. This was very much a case of "computer says no".... and really rather pointless (as lots of people were allowed in a lot less smartly dressed than us)

So into the restaurant. The view over Bangkok from the brige as you walk into the restaurant is fabulous. Just don't try to take a photo from there...as they stop you telling you that they take privacy very seriously. You can take photos from round the edges, without any other diners in the frame. Again, bizarre.

We were sat outside. It;s called Breeze for a reason. The candle on our table must have blown out 50 times during the evening. And the waiter politley came to re-light it. You can't fault the service. But why not have one of those electric candles for blustery evenings?

The food was good - but nothing special. The wine was enormously over priced - even by London restaurant standards. Service was good. The restuarnt was very much trying to attract the "in" crowd.

If you find yourself in Bangkok, you have an enormous choice of fantastic restaurants - from street vendors through to high end. I would recommend that you do not put Breeze on your list of restaurants to visit. You can find a lot better elsewhere, and the value for money is way off. Views are good, but come nowhere close making up for Breeze's other failings.

Breeze, Vertigo, Scricco are all traps set for "tourists" who are in Bangkok and feel that they have to do something "special"... yes, the views are beautiful but after 10 minutes you don't even look out. So, Go Up Get A Drink, Look at the view for 15 minutes and go to one of the thousands of EXCELLENT restaurants Bangkok has. In the process, you will have an extra $250-350 in your pocket the next morning, by not leaving it at the table at one of these establishments for a mediocre meal the night before. Me, been there, done that and Still Regretting.

This place is for tourists only. But be careful long pants and nice polo shirt isnt enough to pass the nonsense dresscode rule for children. No leather sandals allowed for 7 year olds. Definitely a place for red lobster skin showoffs who think going going there makes them part of the international society. If you wanna have great views and good food and children being welcomed go to the Banyan Tree rooftop or the Oriental to sit by the river. This place herr is missing any class and style.
