Although the hotel's rooms were modern and very comfortable, I don't think I'd stay here again. The lobby is black and gray and depressing with staff dressed in black. Just not charming enough for Thailand. When you compare it with lobbies like the Dusit Thani with Thai music playing, front desk staff dressed in beautiful Thai silk, lovely comfortable lounges, the Meridien falls short. We came back to the hotel from shopping at the Jim Thompson store (which is a few blocks away), and with it being hot and humid, wanted a nice cool drink in the bar. The only thing open was the tea and coffee bar. We were sent up to the mezanine to their bar, but there was only a guy vacuuming, and he ignored us. So if you like to sit with a long cool drink in a comfortable lounge in the lobby, this is not for you.
Their evening bar opens late...looks like a '70's disco, and had only single men in it when we were there. The hotel is right across the street from Pat Pong, the famous "massage" area. There is also a night market there, which is handy.
We had a very hard time getting taxis...the doormen ran out onto the street to wave down cabs, but several refused to take us because the main street behind us was too congested...would only take fares in the other direction. (lotta good that does!) That may be something that happens elsewhere as well. But there was no taxi stop and line-up at the hotel, if that makes a difference.
To me, the hotel is best for single men, traveling on business. Very comfortable rooms, but certainly not a "resort" atmosphere.
