This Hostel may be cheap and rooms are basic, but at least I have what I got, that is comfort. I have stayed in this hostel 3 times, no problem with the lady boss who is friendly, along with her staffs. I would recommend to anyone who is just looking for a place to stay. You meet nice people too.

Room Tip: Choose the single rooms instead.

The owner of this place has a seriously bad attitude, and attempted to rip off me and my husband in multiple ways.

First of all, we arrived to find that our reserved room had been given away, because she forgot to write down our reservation. We ended up sleeping in a SINGLE BED in a dark, converted storage room on the roof of the building - but not before she tried to charge us the same price as she had quoted us for the double room we had reserved. Then, when we tried to move to a double room the next day, it wasn't ready for several hours after the check-in time, and ended up being a smelly, windowless room anyway.

The internet was broken, the owner tried to claim she had given us back our deposit when she hadn't...the whole place was terrible. Never stay here.

We stayed here for about 5 nights in January 2010 in a 10-bed dorm room.
The dorm beds themselves were quite good, with personal lights, fans and curtains.

It was quite cold when we were here, about 12 degrees most days, and there was never any heating in the hostel and it was quite cold most of the time. There are decent doonas on the beds though, so we weren't that cold while sleeping.

The bathrooms are OK, with hot water, decent water pressure but the whole hostel stinks of foul eggs or something. Really not very pleasant at all.

There were very few young people staying here and most of the guests were strange middle-aged American, British and German men who were actually LIVING in the hostel. Really weird. It made for a strange atmosphere to say the least. Saying that, some of them were quite nice, but most were weirdos.

Location is OK, close to Metro and a few 7-11s and a Mcdonalds if thats your thing, but apart from that there's not really any interesting shops or many places to eat.

Kitchen area is decent, with a microwave, toaster oven thing and a hot-plate.Not really much room to sit and eat. Each of the dorm rooms has a fridge. The fridges were packed full of the residents stuff though!

Free Wifi and one free computer, often being used by manager though.

This place is OK for a few nights, but anything longer than that and I would reccommend staying at one of the newer hostels in Taipei, maybe TawainMex or Taipei Backpackers.

At first Tapei hostel seemed like a great deal. It was affordable and centrally located. The owner however was very dishonest with us. She picks and chooses who she wants to give the rooms to. When we left to go travel the rest of the country we made arrangements to come back to Taipei hostel. She wrote our name and the dates. When we came back she at first pretended to not remember, but quickly found our reservation. She then told us flatly that some of her "regulars" were coming to town for the weekend and we would have to stay in the dorm. With a little patience we found an actual hotel that was the same price as the hostel with our own washroom and cable tv. The washrooms and services at Taipei hostel were basic at best. Taiwan is fabulous country not to be missed, and is filled with wonderfully kind and genuine people. This hostel is not indicative of Taiwanese service.

I stayed in this hostel in downtown Taipei because it was right next to Shandao Temple MRT Station in the middle of the city. Rooms were around USD16 a night and very basic - just big enough to fit a single bed, fan and clothes rail, so a bit squishy for the average sized person. The bathrooms were a bit off-putting, not particularly clean and no toilet paper provided (but at least the hot water worked!). However the lounge out the front was great, it had a computer with free internet, small kitchenette and lots of 'residents' and visitors who were happy to talk. Quite cruisy atmosphere and staff.

  • Liked — friendly people staying there
