This is a wonderful Hotel in the middle of the Taipei City. The location is fantastic. It is close to every where but it is on the back of a busy street. So, it is quiet at night.
The hotel was recently renovated and it is very comfortable. It is worthy to book a delux twin with spacious room and huge bathroom. It is very clean and well mantained. The breakfast is so so but with very etiquette amount of choices.
Hotel price is good compare to other hotel and this is the hotel I will stay if I come back to Taipei again.

Had a marvelous time staying here. Reception was fast, personal and they can speak proper English. Room was clean, good size for the us and we love the bathroom, cute old fashion style bathtub with a separate double shower room and the toilet comes together with Japanese style automatic warm toilet seat and auto washer, very modern. The room even came equipped with latest stereo player and huge plasma television. Amazingly the rooms were soundproof. Bed was superb and very comfortable. Best of all, free and fast broadband in the hotel. We also had free fresh fruit platters everyday and the drinks in the fridge came free of charge and replenished everyday. Location is superb, really tucked in a quiet street, behind one of the busiest roads in Taipei. It's also in close proximity to a lot of great restaurants and shopping malls and countless of high street and even bargain clothing outlets around and banks. Just five minutes walk either side of the hotel and you are at a mass rapid transit stations. For me traveling around Taipei with a working spouse and left to handle the toddler alone, from the hotel it's hassle free to take the trains to nearly every destinations you want to go to in Taipei city, pushing stroller was easy too, and there are lifts and wheelchair/stroller ramps everywhere. The staffs were very polite, eager and helpful with every demand we had and not fussy with small children, they even sincerely loved to play with our boy. Best of all, for coffee lovers, they have free flow gourmet coffee maker at the reception for all residents. Just bring down your gold-rimmed coffee cup (yes gold trimmed bone china cups and saucers in the room) and the concierge will help you dispense the coffee at your own sweet time, and all these time only when we stayed in Marriott do we get this service. I really recommend this hotel to all my friends traveling to Taipei. Not so expensive but has such privacy and personal care a 5 star hotel can't give you and it is just a 3 star hotel and they offer airport transfers direct to and from the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for deluxe or superior room

If you're an explorer yet want some of the city conveniences, this is a good option. Royal Palace is within steps from Zhongxiao Donglu where shopping rules. Yet at the back of this place hides some interesting shops.

I liked:
1) Cafe515 - an accidental find for brekkie and late night beer (opens from 11am - midnight)
2) proximity to 2 MRT stations Zhongxiao Fuxing and Zhongxiao Dunhua)
3) local Taiwanese food readily available
4) cosy room (even for triple sharing!)
5) Orange Shabu Shabu - quality, enjoyable dinner (there's a surprise towards the end of dinner :) )

There were limited reviews found on The Royal Palace Hotel & not even my local Taiwanese friends have heard of it bc it is quite a small old hotel that has been recently renovated. The location was superb within walking distance to three of the major Japanese Sogo department stores in Taipei city & a metro station within a block. With taxis in Taiwan being relatively inexpensive & abundant, I used that as a means of transport each time I visit Taipei bc I value my time. The hotel staff were forever friendly & helpful. On the day I checked in, the front desk tried her best to communicate with me using English knowing I carried a US passport but was relieved when I spoke to her in Mandarin. I did read from other travelers that communication was an inconvenience, but pls keep in mind that English is uncommon around Taiwan, especially compared to other Asian places like Hong Kong or Singapore. The concierge helped with luggage & also made recommendations of where to go for dining options. There is also an underground free parking available at the hotel which is a bonus for friends who come and visit since Sogo area is very densely overpopulated & finding street parking is a nuisance. I reserved my room without breakfast since Taiwan is known for "little eats" found everywhere on the street, and for those who prefer a more Western meal, bakeries & even 7-11 around the corner serves bread & coffee for much less than the TW$130 per person charged by the hotel. Amenities at the hotel includes free coffee/tea in the lobby, gym & business center. Each morning the housekeeper greeted us on our way out & provided fresh fruits & restocked our complimentary drinks in the mini bar. Even though the rooms have been updated, I found the size a bit smaller than standard and notice wears/tears on carpets & upholstery. The bathrooms were well designed with rain shower/bath combo & high tech Japanese heated toilet sets. Remote control lighting, central air/heat, flat screen TV, & an iPod dock stereo system were nice touches. Overall, I'd say it is more of a 3 star than a 4 star hotel bc no robes provided, disposable slippers were tacky, toiletries were limited (first night was not restocked & had to call front desk), and no wireless internet available throughout the hotel. During my 5 days stay at this hotel, they were undergoing some renovations so there were quite a bit of noise, we were without cable TV for a day & another time even the water was turned off for most of the day. For the price I paid, I would probably stay next time at a smaller boutique hotel further out of the CBD area which has a more modern facility to offer.

We got a triple room, which was a bit small, and the pillows were rather hard. However, the fruit and beverages in the room were free (including soda), the TV had several English language channels, and the bathroom was very clean. The toilet was one of those electronic ones, with bidet and seat warmer. There was also an English language newspaper every morning.

We booked through Agoda, and the rate didn't include breakfast, so I can't say anything about the hotel buffet breakfast. However, there are many restaurants around the hotel, including a 24 hour McDonalds. There's also a Wellcome supermarket and two Sogo department stores nearby, one of which has a branch of the famous Din Tai Fung restaurant.

The Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT entrance was very near; I don't think it took more than five minutes to get there. The airport buses also stop at Zhongxiao Fuxing. It was very easy to go around Taipei from the hotel.

Initially hesitating to select this hotel because there were hardly any reviews from others. Understanding more indepth from pictures from the hotel's website, we decided on the hotel on two reasons. Its has been newly refurbished and the location along the Bannan Metro line (hotel near Zhongxiao Fuxing Metro) would do well. Yes! up to our expectation (though the room is a bit small) service is fantastic - could not ask for more. Make our trip to Taipei a memorable one. Look up for this hotel you are undecided.
