“One of the best things to do while in Taipei”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

Really enjoyed my trip to Maokong. The gondola ride is really a fun experience and it's nice to go to one of the tea places to chill and have a meal. Don't go on Mondays when the gondolas are down for maintenance. The price for riding a crystal cabin and a normal one are the same. Immediately after you arrive at the base station, get a queue number for the crystal cabin tickets (there will be a staff calling under a makeshift tent) to get an earlier time slot first before queueing up to buy tickets from the counter. If you aren't interested in waiting for a crystal cabin, then there's not need to get a queue number and you can just but your tickets straight away. If I recall, you can only get queue numbers for the crystal cabin from the base station and the taipei zoo station to go up. Otherwise, it just depends on your luck.

Price of the ticket depends on which station you are going to. Most people just buy a round trip straight to the Makong station. This will allow you a ride there and back and one addition stop at any other station. I would not recommend stopping at any station on the way up as it can be quite difficult to get an available cabin when you want to head back up again. Stopping on the way down the mountain is much easier and most of the time you can even get a cabin to yourself.

“Beautiful for tea and hiking.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

A great spot to get a view of Taipei. Take the gondola up and think about a hike down. Great tea houses abound that offer a taste of the mountains in your cup and come with some great Taipei eats. With children you can easily mix this trip with a trip to the zoo to keep the wee ones happy.

“Great vehicle to see the view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

It is a great vehicle to take you from the zoo to the top of the nearby mountain, which allows you to see great views over the city. However, it is more recommended on spring, autumn and winter days. Summer heat is unbearable.

“One of the best ways to see Taipei”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

It's cheap, bit far from the city center, but totally worth the journey! If you can stump up the extra cash for the crystal cabin it's even better. I've done this 4 times now and still love it. Make sure you have a good day for it. And please note it's closed on a Mondays.

“Long trip, nice views, good tea”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

After long trip by metro, you have to walk a little bit along the taipei Zoo entrance and there you go. Yo can use a city card to pay the trip. It's good to stop at the Zhinan temple cable car station to see two of those, where you can have a good look at the Taipei 101 and rest of the city (where there is no foggy weather). At the top one can find some nice teahouses serving great tea. Tea Promotion Centre wasn't that impresive. We returned to the city by bus - it was also very pleasant and educating ride. Lot's of real life around. The bus stops at the Wanfang Community metro station. The stop was displayed at LCD screen inside the bus and the driver also told us when to leave.
