This area has several challenging hiking trails and is only an hour from downtown Taipei by metro and bus. We arrived about noon, had some lunch at one of the visitor’s centers and then started our hike up Mt. Qingxi. We hiked alongside volcanic vents with sulphur-laden steam, then started a long ascent up the mountain. It was a bonus that we managed to catch the blooming of the Sakura and we don’t need to travel to Japan for it. But the amount of flowers there were considered bait too little for a famous tourist attraction.

highly recommended for a day trip!!

Just about 30 minute from the bottom to the top by car, but you have to hiking by your feet for reaching the peak of this mountain. Just about 1.6 km only, but not easy. You can walk among the beautiful natural such as bamboo tree, white flower(season option), small bird, and fantastic hot spring. Later, you can enjoy with traditional Taiwanese foods-material made from this mountain.

Would have enjoyed Yangmingshan better if we have our own transport. Waiting for the bus and walking to the bus stand isn't always fast nor near. The buses can be jammed packed and we had to stand or rather hang on for dear life as the bus made its twisty way around and down the mountain. It was worse than a roller coaster ride.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. This walk has stretches of moderate intensity with fairly steep slopes. The floral clock is iconic. Enjoy the fresh air and relax as you soak in the scenery.

Although I couldn't see anything of the city from the top of the mountain due to the weather, my hike up Mount Qixing was great. It's definitely doable even though you're not a "proper" hiker (I've had the unhealthy lifestyle of an exchange student for the past five months, was wearing worn-out sneakers, and I still survived) but be aware that is up, up, up, the entire way! The djunge-like nature along the way is however your reward as well as the right to brag about having climbed to 1120 meters.
