We booked deluxe rooms and the hotel kindly upgraded us free of charge to Classic rooms. As the hotel is less than a year old so everything in the room was nice and new. The rooms were big, so were the hot tub in the room (made for two persons to soak at the same time) and the shower cum steam room (big enough for a single bed). There are no doors to separate the bed area from the tub and shower area, only glass walls. So sharing the room with anyone other than your better half would be awkward. Thank goodness we booked a separate room for my teenaged son!
Our rooms were on the 3rd floor facing a small garden, with an enclosed outdoor patio connected to the bathroom. The tub and shower room had floor to ceiling windows (with blinds for privacy) facing the garden. So one could technically soak/shower/sit in the patio and enjoy the garden view at the same time. Unfortunately, our rooms also faced the serviced apartment block that's part of the hotel complex. So soaking or showering with the blinds up was impossible.
The steam bath in the shower room worked perfectly but it would have been better if they had built in a ledge for sitting in the shower. The shower smelled a bit mouldy too. I suspect it was due to the blinds being constantly damp from the shower or the steam.
Breakfast was only so so. Variety was very limited and the spread never changed the 2 days we were there.
However, the staff were friendly (not all could speak English well though) and the location is great. 5 mins walk to the train station. There is a 24 hour supermarket and fast food chains, all within 5 mins walk from the hotel. If you're into ramen, there is also a very popular ramen shop almost next to the hotel.
Expect though to handle your own luggage. When we were there, the receptionist doubled as porter and concierge.
All in, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and will definitely stay again at the hotel should we decide to revisit Xinbeitou.
