Taste just ok, this is good during cold season. Just be prepared to eat while standing, no seats when full...

Tao-Yuan-Street Beef Noodle Shop (桃源街牛肉麵) is the oldest/best red-hot beef-doodle soup in Taipei. The shop has no sign (billboard), no address posted, never advertised... it seems to say that "you should know me, don't need me to tell you". It is so proud of itself, never get into any "competition" or try to grab any award/prize by joining "Festivals".
It is always packed. The location is close to Presidential Hall and many government offices. So at lunch hours, you are going to see many office workers pack this shop.
The beef slices are soft and tasted. The noodle is a right-kind: flat-and-wide (寬麵) and chewy (有咬勁). soup is "thick" and tasted. Maybe someone would complain it's "oily", "salty" and "too hot/spicy". But that's the way it is (and should be). It's NT 180 ($6).
Another unique dish is the "Steamed ribs with pearly rice" (粉蒸排骨). It is the first and best of its kind. Many followers including the famous Yon-Kan Street beef-Noodle shop.
