This is far and away the best Indian restaurant in Taipei. The tandoor oven and freshly made breads are an eye-catching stand-out, but what really makes Saffron great is the depth and breadth of dishes and flavours. All the standards are there, but the menu goes well beyond that to introduce a range of flavours and spices, with particularly good non-spicy dishes to balance out the meal - both veg and meat. Try some of the cream-based curries.
Have been here a number of times over the years. Dinner for two, out with the guys. Always great. Last time was a quiet mid-week birthday.
Service is good, but because space and reservations are tight, one often gets the feeling that staff is really itching for you to free-up the table for the next party. A bit more finesse would be nice on that score.
Drawbacks: Tienmu is far and reservations can be difficult to get on late notice.
