“At Home in Taipei, Because of The Riviera”
Reviewed May 24, 2007

It's been my 4th time to stay at The Riviera and every visit is a wonderful experience! The hotel is small but very well-maintained and the staff are all friendly, helpful and courteous. I stayed in a Business Suite and the amenities really cater to business people like me. The breakfast buffet is always a good reason NOT to skip breakfast, the dimsums are fantastic and the baked products are really fresh! Location is also an advantage, especially if I spend the weekend there as it is close to the Church.

Only downside is the size of the health centre. I do feel restricted to use it because of its size and limited equipments. And I need to exercise especially with all those food at the breakfast buffet and beef noodles!

Over-all, I find The Riviera a real "value-for-money" hotel. And no noisy tour groups, too! I did get a lot of work done because there were less distractions. The room is clean and smelled fresh! The housekeeping team really does a good job, and they are never grumpy when asked for help.

Keep up the good work, Riviera Team!

The hotel doesn't look like all that much driving up but entering the lobby gave us a different view. I had booked the hotel after reading about it on tripadvisor.com and it was so correct. The staff spoke perfect English and were more than ready to help us with anything we needed. They arranged our tours for us and gave directions on anything we wanted to find. We booked a regular room and were pleased to find that we ended up getting a business suite. The food at the hotel was great, also, and we ended up eating most of our meals there. It's close to the MRT station as well as convenience stores and a Chinese temple. The only downside was that the rooms needed a remodel, although the bedding was very nice. The halls smelled musty but the room didn't. There is a nice rooftop fitness center that is not all out but has everything one would need on a trip. The roof also is a nice to place sit and enjoy a drink from the convenience store. For an extra fee, the hotel will provide transportation in a luxuary car, which was well worth it.

  • Liked — Wonderful staff
  • Disliked — No pool, smelly hallways (musty)

The staff is exceptional - full English - insisted on walking us to our room which turned out to be a mini suite with an office entry - FREE Wireless and wired internet throughout hotel, newsppaper at door, free large water bottles in room.

Large towels. Great Bedding. Beautiful wood floors.

And then room includes breakfast/brunch buffet for two that was exceptional - Asian and American. Cheeses, fruits, made to order omelettes, beautiful pastrys. And the final day we had to leave for our flight before 6:30 am so they packed to go boxes with yogurt, fruit, sandwiches. And had a private car - fancy car - waiting to take us to airport, not free but very little more than taxi.

When we left something in hotel safe they tracked us down at airport and offered to send to us in the States.

And cost was almost the lowest in all of Expedia - use Expedia to book as their deal included breakfast buffet for 2 every day that going to hotel's web site directly did not for same price.

Is a walk to MRT - about 5 blocks - only negative.

Superb hotel, from the moment we arrived until the time of our departure, this hotel came through on all counts-service, location, food and amenities.

My band was on tour in Taiwan and we were booked at this hotel. Since
there were three of us, we had two rooms, the deluxe twin and the executive double. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. A big plus for us was the FREE WIFI in the rooms (yeah!) (or anywhere in the hotel, although we didn't test that out).

There is a mini health club on the top floor with some basic equipment- weights, treadmill, bike, and a small outddoor running track. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was excellent, for $15.00 US
there was a grand buffet with fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs made to order, dim sum, croissants, etc.

Staff were super helpful, friendly, professional and spoke english quite well. They were great in recommending local restaurants, foot massage places and helped us on our quest to find hot springs on our last day there.

The Riviera is close to the Metro, Fine Arts Museum, foot massage places and even a night market or two.

We absolutely recommend this hotel for bands, business types or anyone -men -women- looking for a safe, clean ..boutique hotel experience.

If we're ever back on tour in Taipei, we'll stay here!

As other reviewers have noted, the Riviera on Linsen N. Road, Taipei offers quite excellent value for money. Here you have many of the services expected from a 5 star hotel at 3 1/2 star prices.

I paid NT$4300 through Expedia for a standard room for 5 nights. The room was equipped with all you could possibly need, with very comfortable beds, TV/DVD and broadband Internet access (a slower wireless connection is also available).

The staff are quite excellent, forever courteous and happy to help. I must also mention the buffet breakfast - it was quite exquisite, one of the best I have had in Asia, with a fresh and varied selected and a choice of eggs brought to your table. The same restaurant's dinner menu is more of an average specimen, but it is not as Taipei is lacking in quality dining options.

The location to the north of town in not ideal for the Xinyi business district or the centre of twon, but North Taipei holds several tourist attractions of its own. What's more, the hotel is located in a pleasant, safe neighbourhood, albeit a while away from an MRT station (Yuanshan, 10-15 min walk).

My only real complaint with the Riviera is that their second floor bar was closed on 2 of the 5 nights I stayed due to a private function. The fact I cannot find anything more serious to complain about is a testament to the quality of this hotel.

An excellent value option, and highly recommended.

This beautifully designed hotel is a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of Taipei. The staff offers exceptional service. The rooms are comfortable, clean and very well-equipped (robes, flat screen televisions, irons/ironing boards, work areas). The hotel is located within walking distance of parks, an MRT station, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and an interesting night market.

Very pleasant hotel, nice rooms and very good breakfast. Very friendly staff, and unlike a lot of other places in Taipei, all spoke excellent English. Not too far from one metro station, although taxi fares in taipei are very low anyway. I'd certainly go back again.
