“Nice Hotel with good location and lovely staff”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

I stayed at this hotel in September 2012. My husband was attending a conference at the same hotel while I roamed around Taipei. The room was good size with a large glass window with the view of Taipei 101. There was a small baggage room with an awkward door. The Bathroom was good size with a small TV and a shower cubicle as well as a bath tub. The room size and cleanliness were impressive and everyday the fruit basket was replenished! It is situated next to a mall which had some eating joints as well as a convenience store. The breakfast spread was huge and nice too! One of the night markets was just 7-8 minutes walk away. Also the tube station was 10 minutes walk away. The staff was very helpful in guiding the ways to travel to different destinations. It was extremely easy to catch a cab to any place from the door step. The hotel always gave me a card written in Chinese to show to the cab driver. The swimming pool at the rooftop had stunning views of the city during the day as well as night; its a nice big swimming pool! It was a wonderful stay and thanks to Shangri-La hotel that I had a wonderful and memorable experience in Taipei.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with Taipei 101 view. Always take a Hotel card and directions written in Chinese to...

Positives: This is an excellent hotel. Service, food, ambiance, decor, and amenities are all top-notch and what you would expect from a Shangri-La. The roof-top pool and spa are definitely a memorable experience and a nice distraction for the tired business traveler.

Cons: It's Shangri-la, so you are always going to have to pay for the luxury. That said, I've seen worse. The mall is a little small and could be curated a little bit better.

We arrived around noon and our rooms were not ready, so we went to lunch at one of the hotel restaurants. After lunch, the room was still not ready which is quite disappointing. After a few more requests, they finally allowed us to check in. Our room was spacious with a separate sitting area, dressing room and large bathroom. The room is a little aged and could do with an upgrade, though still quite comfortable.

The hotel has a great location, connected to a mall (mostly high end labels) with some good dining choices in the basement. We took taxis from the hotel and it appeared close to all the main attractions (judging by the reasonable taxi fares).

Overall, it would be better if the rooms and lobby were refurbished as the decor is slightly dated, but we enjoyed our stay here.

Very good hotel, although exactly what you expect from this chain and the price you pay.
The service was particularly exceptional even by their standards, rooms good but nothing really special (we were floor 15), restaurant food very good with a wide variety of cooking to cater for all tastes (western included).
The location is pretty good for the 101 tower area and we found some great bars and restaurants in the area opposite the hotel.
Highly recommend.

Great hotel. Staff well trained. I loved the rooms and the view that I got facing the city and mountains. Coffee and tea in then room with two bottles water free . There's a small mall connected to the hotel . City super at the basement with grocery area and food court. There are also cinemas few steps away . There Is also a night market 20 minutes walk. That's about what you have in ths area. 101 bldg is 120 Taiwan money by taxi. Here you have great shopping and great food. Ximending shopping is 180 Taiwan money by taxi.

Fifth time staying at this property for business and for a total of four nights this time round. Checking-in was a breeze (as usual) and the usual hospitality of the front desk staff accompanying you to the lifts, which I find it has a personal touch. The executive room that I was staying in was in order and huge but realised that items from the previous guest was overlooked by housekeeping upon checking out. First was a tag which I presume was from the gym (or somewhere within the hotel) was left hanging on the hook in the toilet. Secondly, a food wrapper was left in the bin in the toilet. Certainly I can bear with such minor overlook but certainly isn't the usual Shangri-La standard that I was expecting from this chain. As for the condition of the room, it's showing signs of ageing and I've observed pretty much wear and tear around the room. Besides this, I didn't had the time to use the gym or pool but previous experiences have been good so far. Not sure whether I'll be returning to this property on my subsequent visits as other chains in the city that I'd tried (Hyatt, Sheraton, etc) had been on par, so Shangri-La needs to prove its excellence over these rivals.

We were very happy with our stay overall in shangri-la which was a one night discovery of Taipei.
Service is great and we had a nice room overlooking 101 tower on the 33rd floor.
Free wifi, beautiful pool on the roof with magnificent view of Taipei. Perfect if you don't have much time to visit...
