“Excellent Value with Great Breakfast”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

I stay here for a few days each year when I attend an education conference. This time, I paid US $75 per night. The rooms are clean and appointed with all basic amenities. Wi-fi Internet is included. The highlight for me is the bountiful breakfast spread each morning. The finer offerings are Chinese style; western style foods are more limited. Some downsides: room space is somewhat limited, with barely enough room to open a couple of suitcases on the floor; sound insulation is relatively poor, as my business colleague was able to hear me getting up to make phone calls early in the morning. Overall, this hotel is an excellent value.

I stayed here for 5 nights in one of their semi-suite rooms. It's not a fancy or luxurious hotel, but very pleasant, especially at the reasonable prices they charge. The room was large and well furnished, with a big and comfortable bed. The bathroom was fine, with a nice big shower cubicle. There were plenty of points for charging phones and laptop, and the wi-fi worked very well. The room was generally very quiet although the walls were quite thin so I occasionally heard some noises from my neighbours, but nothing major.

I had a bit of trouble persuading them to provide me with three wi-fi codes (phone, ipad and laptop) for reasons I couldn't fathom, but I was given all three in the end. There was some tasty fresh fruit provided, and a couple of bottles of water in the fridge, but no minibar (not that I've ever used one!). Also worth noting that I was told I would have to pay a full day's rate for a late checkout at 5pm, which seemed pretty steep to me.

The breakfast is served in a large dining room on the ground floor, and is almost entirely Asian food. I soon got used to having noodles and vegetables for breakfast, accompanied by rice porridge - pretty tasty actually. There is a swimming pool and a gym but sadly I didn't get to use either.

The location was very good for my purposes. Just a 5 minute walk to the nearest MRT station with good connections around the city, and plenty of shops and restaurants just down the road. There was a great little jazz bar (Blue Note) near the MRT station, and it's not far to the nearest night market.

I will happily stay there on my next visit to Taipei.

I stayed here in a suite for five nights and had a very good experience with this hotel. Rooms were spacious and with all mod cons, with the living study area able to be separated from the bedroom.

The service in the hotel was excellent and helpful, and the position was good being a 10 minute walk to the MRT metro train station. Breakfast was a broad selection of Asian cuisine with some catering for toast and cereals, and I must recommend the steamed fish, which seems odd, but a great starter for the day.

Most items needed were in the room but iron and board were provided on request. The complex is large, with cafes etc but no bar area, however in this central position that was no problem.

This is a business hotel, and would definitely suit the business traveller to Taipei.

Room Tip: Choose a suite, as these provide the large desk space etc and a good working environment as well as...

This hotel is so close to the NTU. Only a 3 minute walk. The breakfast was nice and the beds were comfortable. The one complaint that I had was that they charged for WIFi and you could only be on with one device at a time. Frustrating. The staff was superb. I would stay here again!!

The rooms are large compared to typical US hotels and has a separate sitting area, and the hotel is in a good state and clean. The breakfast buffet is large and includes western and Taiwanese dishes. Overall the hotel is comfortable and a safe bet in a good location near NTU and Da'an park.

Room Tip: The walls are thin and there are events on the 14th floor so it can be noisy till midnight for rooms...

This is my second time at the Howard. It is walking distance to NTU and, as stated by others, close to many places to eat (e.g., Din Tai Fung). The rooms are spacious (although closet space could be a little larger). There is a front room with desk, couch and TV, as well as a separate bedroom and bathroom. Everything is very clean and relatively new. As such, it is always a pleasure to stay here.

Furthermore, the hotel has a pool and a small gym with very new treadmills. I use the latter regularly.

Breakfast buffet is extensive and quite good. I recommend going early (7am) because it might be crowded later. The selection of asian and european dishes is extensive, however, I prefer to stick to the asian dishes and, in particular, steamed buns.

Overall a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: get a room up high.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel. Very useful if you are working at NTU, or the location is close to where you are doing business. Not so handy if you are a tourist looking for the centre of the city. Plenty of good eating places nearby. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast is very Asian - good value. Staff are very helpful. If you like garden parks, there is an excellent one near the hotel.
