“Convienent and Comfortable”

This hotel is so close to the NTU. Only a 3 minute walk. The breakfast was nice and the beds were comfortable. The one complaint that I had was that they charged for WIFi and you could only be on with one device at a time. Frustrating. The staff was superb. I would stay here again!!

The rooms are large compared to typical US hotels and has a separate sitting area, and the hotel is in a good state and clean. The breakfast buffet is large and includes western and Taiwanese dishes. Overall the hotel is comfortable and a safe bet in a good location near NTU and Da'an park.

Room Tip: The walls are thin and there are events on the 14th floor so it can be noisy till midnight for rooms...

This is my second time at the Howard. It is walking distance to NTU and, as stated by others, close to many places to eat (e.g., Din Tai Fung). The rooms are spacious (although closet space could be a little larger). There is a front room with desk, couch and TV, as well as a separate bedroom and bathroom. Everything is very clean and relatively new. As such, it is always a pleasure to stay here.

Furthermore, the hotel has a pool and a small gym with very new treadmills. I use the latter regularly.

Breakfast buffet is extensive and quite good. I recommend going early (7am) because it might be crowded later. The selection of asian and european dishes is extensive, however, I prefer to stick to the asian dishes and, in particular, steamed buns.

Overall a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: get a room up high.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel. Very useful if you are working at NTU, or the location is close to where you are doing business. Not so handy if you are a tourist looking for the centre of the city. Plenty of good eating places nearby. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast is very Asian - good value. Staff are very helpful. If you like garden parks, there is an excellent one near the hotel.

I've been reading the gushing reports on this hotel and must have missed something on my visit :)

Location: If NTU is your destination, it doesn't get any better to just across the street to the campus. If its anywhere else in the city, then the Metro stop is a 5-10min walk away. This is a min street and there are limited stores, restaurants in this area - on the other hands, taxis are plentiful and cheap.

Rooms: Basic, spartan, functional etc etc - take your pick. Unlike the other suite dwellers, mine was a standard room that left me unexcited. A single basic bed with a rather lumpy mattress, a basic table, a refrigerator with a single bottle of water and a basic toilet just about sums it up. Nothing wrong but also just basic - this is a 3 star property at best and its ok for that.

Wifi: works well - just get the username/password at checkin else its a slow process of a person coming and delivering that slip of paper.

Breakfast: This was a low point for me. The western section was white/wheat bread and a few other cut breads, a toaster plus 3 open pots of peanut butter + jams. It was interesting to see a lady spread peanut butter on a slice and _then_ put in in the toaster to educational results :) Maybe I missed something but there was no cereal or yoghurt etc. Beside this "western section", I was hard pressed to find anything that was non-Asian. Boiled eggs ='s tea boiled eggs - eating blackened eggs put me off. No other eggs and an assortment of noodles, meats, salads - all nice but not for breakfast...at least for me. A few basic fruits, a juice machine, a few containers of ice cream (breakfast?) and a lonesome coffee machine was pretty much it. Not my idea of breakfast. As many others commented, the place fills up fast and stays crowded.

Business center: non-existent. A sign mentions it to be on the 3rd floor where there is locked door and ...

Lobby etc - ok-ish, small and functional and nothing special.

Overall, if someone is hosting you at NTU this is where you'll be. If I had a choice, I'd pick some other place closer to the city center.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the NTU campus - that's about the only green area in the neighborhood and y...

This is a PPP (public-private partnership) between a hotel chain and the government, catering to visiting civil servants, and adjacent to the main Taiwanese civil service training center. That one should know, and in spite of the PPP, it is not primarily a hotel, even if it is used especially by the surrounding universities for foreign conference participants and the like. The place caters primarily to local civil servants. As usual in East Asia, that means a generally high standard. The semi-suites are nice and not very semi: It basically means there is a living and a bed room with a solid matte glass door in between. The bathrooms are small and dated, the rest is very nice and not spartan, as some have written here, but nicely minimalist. Nice empty fridge (with water), fruit, daily paper; Chinese crowded buffet breakfast included. The reception staff is okay.

The MRT is 10-15 minutes away, so in the Taipei sultry heat, that may be an obstacle to some (cutting through the Night Market is more interesting; otherwise, when you go out of the door, just turn right and right again and follow that road - all very safe, even at night). There is a good Vietnamese restaurant right next door on left; if one goes a bit further, there is a Wellcome supermarket (5 minutes). I would strongly recommend the Wistaria Tea House which is 5 minutes away, either for traditional tea or for a very nice lunch.

An outstanding feature of the hotel is the pool. This is not a hotel spa but something like a public pool, but it is 25 m in length and has lanes for lap swimming; for me, this is great for exercise. There is also a big whirlpool with strong massage faucets, as well as good showers. Towels are provided.

Altogether, a perfect and apparently well-priced place to stay in Taipei, especially if it's for more than a night or two.

Room Tip: Semi-suite, high floor

We stayed here for four nights in July 2012. The hotel was picked by our academic host. While it is not a luxurious hotel by any means, it was quite clean and comfortable. We had a good sized suite which consisted of a living room with sofa, desk, mini-fridge, electric water kettle and flat screen TV and a bedroom separate from the living room. There was a large safe in the closet which could fit my rather big laptop. Waiting in the room when we checked in was a fresh fruit platter, a nice touch.

A breakfast buffet was included with our room. It consisted of mostly Chinese dishes, not Western, except for maybe some sliced ham and toast. The only egg choice was tea eggs. The restaurant was very crowded and it was difficult to find a table at peak times. I think that's why they give you a blue card to put on your table to show it is in use when you are getting your food.

In the mornings, the elevator was a bit slow as there are many workers traveling between the civil service offices in the building and the parking garage below ground. If you need to visit National Taiwan University, this hotel is very close. There is a night market nearby which we did not get a chance to visit. The closest convenience store is about a ten minute walk away.

If you want Internet access, you have to call the front desk, tell them how many days you want it for, and then someone comes to your room with a print-out that has a code for you to enter on your computer. Kind of an odd system, but it works.
