“Great Taipei hotel for westerners and business travellers alike”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

We have stayed at the Howard Garden Suites in Taipei on 2 occasions and have been very happy there. The rooms are spacious with great amenities and very importantly - a comfortable bed. Some Asian hotels have very hard beds - be careful! The location is very central, only a few minutes walk to MRT or bus connections, and taxis are relatively inexpensive in Taiwan. Breakfast is excellent. I will definitely return when planning a trip to Taipei.

We spent two weeks in Taipei. Found this to be a very comfortable property for a long stay. There are many restaurants in the area, a small supermarket right next next, several ATMs within a block, and a very short walk to the MRT station. We had a small suite with a sitting area and bedroom. The layout was odd in that the television and work desk including internet connection were in the bedroom - I would have prefered the sitting room. If I went back, I would take a wireless router so I could work on my laptop in the sitting room. Hotel staff were all very polite, considerate and efficient. There is a nice breakfast bar set up to suit a range of tastes. They don't offer loads of options on a daily basis, but the offering changes daily so you do get some variety. Property was clean and quiet - though there is a construction project underway next door. We luckily faced a different direction. There is a guest laundry available on the main floor. Would love to go back to Taipei.

Our suite was about 30 m2 with a small bedroom with a king size bed 2x2 m, a living room with a small kitchen line and a nice bathroom with a very good shower and nice soft bathtowels. However the water pressure at the sink is very poor and there is no space to put any toileteries. There is missing a large full body mirror and the WIFI does mostly not work properly in the room. The pillows in the bed are very thick (at least 20 cm) and very hard, so you had a stiff neck in the morning. Room disposed of a wooden floor and was clean. - Breakfast buffet is rather limited, coffee or tea had to be made by yourself at a (Swiss !) coffee machine, however coffee quality was perfect. Staff only clears tables - no service. Tables are limited so one morning we had to go downstairs to the basement for breakfast what was very unpleasant as you had to walk the staircase for any item you wanted to fetch on the buffet. This part is also by far not the same quality of furniture: very cheap chairs of different kinds and
simple white tables whereas the breakfast room and lobby was design-like very nicely decorated. Location is pleasant, MTR is only about 5 minutes walk away.

It has been raining cats and dogs in Taipei, traffic was bad and we were late to get back to the hotel to check out (1pm). We know it's totally our fault and we even apologized several times before rushing back to our room to gather our luggages, but do you have to call, within
minutes and asked impolitely when we were coming down??? When we checked out, the lady with the glasses didn't even bother to speak to us, and just because of the pissed face, I'm giving this incredible hotel a mere 1 service point. Location, breakfast, room and gym were all fantastic but I'll never forget the angry face.

Stayed 2 nights with family. Location is close to downtown and major department store. It's convenient to eat around and to go shopping. Room size is big enough. There is separate bathroom, living room and bedroom. Item in bathroom, like bath soap or shampoo, were quite good. Breakfast was complementary.

Stayed here for 3 nights for business. It is convenient to the light rail but not walking distance to any city attractions or major shopping areas. It is, however, only a short taxi ride away to most anything. The neighborhood seems safe. Rooms are not small but not very big either and they don't have a lot of natural light, small windows. Room amenities are stingy--you get one bar of soap, shampoo, and bath lotion but no moisturizers or anything else. The gym is very small but have good equipment and there's a recreation room with a foosball and pool table. The hotel restaurant is small and the breakfast is nothing special but a good variety to satisfy all tastes--Western, Japanese, and Chinese. Service is good, polite and professional. Overall, this is a nice, clean, and well-maintained facility. The low rates reflect the level of service and amenities. I would recommend this if you're traveling on a budget but want a very comfortable, clean, and convenient place to stay. It's certainly designed for business so, I don't know if I'd stay here for leisure or romance.

The hotel is nore like a one bedroom apartment than a hotel. It has a small lounge, kitchenette and study area. It was more spacious than a hotel room. The room was clean, with free internet and as I was working in the room most of my stay, the hotel served its purpose. It was great to have a huge fridge in the lounge especially in a hot day to store my drinks. There is an adequate gym, laundry and self-laundry facilities onsite. The staff was great and willing to assist at all time.

The hotel is less than 5 minutes away from the MRT station and there is a sufficient restaurants, small food store and some 24hrs convenient store nearby.
