“Just an okay stay...”
Reviewed January 29, 2012

In early December 2011, I stayed 3 nights at Howard Plaza. We booked superior King with two beds but we both were quite surprised how small the room was in comparison to other rooms/hotels of the same sort. Though, the hotel seems quite grand with all the stores and what not, the interior, plus the rooms are quite dated, especially the bathroom. The girl at the front desk was unable to answer many of my questions and my check in took some time. Aside from that, and room aesthetics, I did have an okay stay with no other complaints. The hotel is located about a 10-12 minute walk from the train station, which I had no problem with. The concierge staff were super helpful and really caring. They provided me with maps and great insight of where to go and visit and just after one time conversation, they remembered me by name and always greeted me with smile. I definitely appreciate this sort of courtesy and so if I were just reviewing them, it would be a perfect score however, I do have to keep everything in mind. Most of the guests that I noticed were from Asian countries, with a few British and Europeans. There is a shuttle from the hotel to the airport that runs every so often. All in all, my stay was okay. I liked the location, and most of the staff, but some rubbed me the wrong way. Also for a hotel of this stature, room to room makeover would be nice. And just because I didn't feel too comfortable as in cozy in my room, I would probably not come back. However, if there was a re-modelling done within the rooms and bathrooms, I would have no problem in coming back.

Room Tip: ask not to face the parking lot. If you ask for a higher floor room facing the main street, you migh...

I recently stayed here for a week with my grandmother, who has been visiting for years and is loath to try another option. The hotel was great about fulfilling our special requests, such as calling airlines, researching restaurant options, and even keeping an eye on my grandmother who tends to wander off. Because we were constantly going in and out of the hotel (after each errand, we'd come back to take a rest) the staff grew to recognize us. They all had such friendly, professional demeanors.

We had buffet breakfast but while we were there, the Chinese breakfast buffet was closed due to a low number of Chinese guests. The Western/Japanese buffet was nothing special, but there are excellent options nearby for do jung (soy milk) and mian bao (at Florida Bakery). The restaurants are more banquet-style; we tried one (the Taiwanese place on the basement level) which was just so-so. The wifi charge was around $10 USD per day and the speed (on the 6th floor) was less than 200 MB/s. I also didn't like the shopping options-- just dozens of mediocre "garment district"-style struggling designers. There's also no gift shop or area to purchase toiletries, newspapers, etc.

We stayed in Howard Plaza Hotel Dec 2011 for the New Year, we check in the Rosewood Suites and expect to have a nice and welcoming stay, unfortunately some of the staff in the lounge was very rude and have very bad attitude. Unlike the lounge at Novotel and Sofitel, the staff are always welcoming. The girls even said all hotels in Taiwan have the same style as theirs.

This hotel is in a good location. The service is good, but the hotel itself is very '80's ' and needs to be upgraded. I would only stay at this hotel when there is nothing else available, as there are other better options.

Stayed Junior Suite Room for 4nights during Christmas holiday.
checked in on Rosewood Club lounge, staffs are efficiently and fluent in English.
Like other Taiwan hotels, breakfast is included for only one person
even 2 persons stay in a room.
600 taiwan dollars+ required for expra person to have breakfast and
for a lounge access, too.

Breakfast was fine, more on weekend. Eggs, bacons, hams, chinese
style porrige, variety of bread, fruits, salads, juice, coffee+tea, yoghurt, etc.

As for Rosewood lounge, chocolates, cookies are set for whole day. drinks
are not self service, always staffs bring you even on the cocktail time(5.30-7P.M.)
slices of pizza and some appetizers are set on that time. (actually set around 6 p.m.)
NTT high speed wi-fi is complimentaly, no stress at all at room, lounge.

Room we stayed at was on the 11th, not facing streets which was not so much view but
quiet. large living area, safe deposit box has enough space to store laptops.
Both living and bed room were clean, no spots. bath room has a deep bathtub, scale,
lots of amenities. Loccitane toileteries are almost perfect, almost... Why the soap bars
were hotel original not a french mill soap?
Tooth brush, razor, shaving cream, comb, cotton buds, bath salt, etc...

About location.
close to MRT station, just 5mins. from Exit 2, Airport bus is just the
door step to this hotel.

Overall, I would choose this hotel on my next stay in Taipei.

Stayed here few times. The hotel is going through a renovation. The new rooms are excellent.
Breakfast is very good, as on the grouind floor they have Taiwanese buffet and western style on the 1st floor. Good Bar open till late. It is quite close to MRT but Taxis are very cheap and plentiful.

I have stayed at the Howard Plaza a couple of times on business trips to Taipei. The location is very good -- near an MTR stop, and with direct bus service to the airport. The rooms are OK, although a bit small, and the restaurants are very good. Breakfast is excellent. Its right in the middle of the new main shopping district. The staff is very helpful.

My only complaint is that wireless is very slow. Forget about Skype.
