“Again! a wonderful stay”
Reviewed April 16, 2011

This is the 2nd time that we stayed there. This time the Jr Suite with lounge access was wonderful. The Jr Suite has a sitting area which is great when my family came to visit us. I love how this suite was quiet, with one of the best bathroom in hotels in Taipei. There are lots of books to read right outside of our suite on the corridor, which is amazing that hotel has collection as such for guests to enjoy.

The lounge on 17th floor is always a great place to be after a day out to chill and enjoy a book and a glass of wine.

The hotel was recommended by a work associate and was told that it was newly opened and strategically located. The hotel has a gothic theme to it and i must agree that either you love it or hate it. It makes the place looks dark but i found it to be rather interesting and different from the rest of the business hotels. The bathroom design is odd but i love the entertainment system in the room (pretty high tech). The hotel gym is basic but not impressive (lacking in style). It is conveniently located next to the mall (Q Sqaure) with cinema, restaurants and great connection to the train station. Walking distance to food and shopping area such as Daiso etc. My colleague was unwell and i was glad that there was a pharmacy just down the road (less than 5 min). Overall, nice and comfortable and the hotel staff were very helpful.

Good location, near subway station, mall, eateries. Courteous staff, modern and elegant facilities. Must consider if staying in Taipei.

I stayed at the Palais for three nights last week while on business and really enjoyed my stay. I'll definitely consider staying there again for future trips. The other hotels I've stayed at are the Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza and the Les Suites Ching Cheng. The Shangri-La is a superb five-star while Le Suites is a fine boutique hotel. Palais is superior to Les Suites, however, especially given the (current) price difference. So in the future I'll either choose the Shangri-La or Palais when I go to Taipei.

Palais is a hybrid between a five-star hotel and a boutique hotel, leaning more towards the latter. The rooms are smaller than those at five-star hotels, and the fittings and furniture are slightly lower in quality. But the Palais has heaps more style and originality than the chain hotels, though some people may not take to its particular style (I liked it a lot).

The location of the hotel is excellent, next to the central Taipei Main Station and 20 minutes from Taipei 101 by taxi. Because the hotel is located on a busy thoroughfare, however, taxis can't drive up to the front of the hotel and instead stop on the street in front about 25 steps away. This isn't a big deal except when it rains heavily and you're waiting for a taxi (the hotel staff offer help, of course).

The rooms are super stylish and dramatically lit with great contrasts. The size of the rooms are smaller than those in most five-stars, but more than adequate and quite comfortable. To save space, they brought the sink area out into the room (see the hotel's photos).

When hotel staff take you up to your room the first time, they offer to show you how to control the lights and remote controls. I highly recommend that you take them up on this, because these can be rather confusing to use at first.

The service is generally good but not as consistent as in five-stars. The two dining rooms are stunningly beautiful and serve excellent food. The breakfast offers many more choices than the Les Suites, though it's not quite as elaborate as in the Shangri-La. But it provides unusual and exotic choices, such as passionfruit and salad greens that aren't usually seen in hotel buffets.

The gym is small but adequate with decent equipment.

If you prefer grand, five-star hotels that offer familiarity and predictable high-end luxury and service, hotels like the Shangri-La may be more to your liking. But if you want an alternative to the relatively generic feel of chain hotels, the Palais offers gorgeous style, comfort, quirks and uniqueness.

The hotel is one of the newest in Taipei. Overall quality is very good. As a new hotel, staff are quite new and need more experience. Rooms are nicely layout. Perfect for geeks like me but I could see some people may struggle with all the high-tech gadgets in the room like light control, sound control and multi-media systems. My package include buffet breakfast and it is a must have for food lovers. Breakfast include Western, Japanese, Chinese and French cuisine and the French pastry are particular tasty. Hotel locates next to subway station and could easy travel around Taipei. Plenty of shops and restaurant around the hotel to choose from.

My bro and I stayed at the Palais De Chine for 2 nights while exploring Taipei. Really had a good time and the hotel stay certainly added to our enjoyment. The hotel is a bit exotic and over the top dark gothic old victorian style, but we loved it. And since the hotel just recently opened everything was brand spanking new. The deluxe room where we stayed was very comfortable, plush carpet, tv controled lights and AC, ingriguing bathroom set-up (enjoyed the high-tech Japanese toilet), and lovely queen beds...Breakfast each morning was delicious, with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. Staff were very pleasant. Overall one of my more memorable hotel stays...

This is a new 5 star hotel situated right opposite to Taipei Main Station. The location cannot get any better than this.

Good size room and nice big king size bed. All the amenities you expect in a 5 star hotel and the chinese-style decorations and furnishings are quite charming. The entertainment system is quite high-tech with most of the information you required (eg weather, sightseeing, train timetable) just a click away on the LCD TV (as well as free in-room movies).

Don't miss the excellent buffett breakfast with both western, chinese and taiwanese style breakfast.

Having spending 2 weeks in Japan with excellent Japanese hospitality, I have to say that the hospitality and friendliness is not as good as Japanese but still very good.
