“Sensory Overload!”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

almost three football fields long under an overpass. Weekend only - weekdays it is a car park. the flowers, live plants, food, imported antiques and jade (China) - bargaining - if you dont speak bring someone who does - it really helps - they can spot a tourist and extra money. there are antique shops on the opposite road side (private school side) - swear one was a front for an opium den.

“Huge flower market with some great prices”
Reviewed March 19, 2011

Great place to have a wander round and have a look, people watch or pick up some fresh flowers. Beautiful orchids for around NT$150, lots of herbs in pots, big trees, pretty flowers, gardening equipment and more. Not much space in each little stall do don't take big backpacks, you would knock things over! Looking forward to enhancing my cooking with my newly purchased fresh herbs.

“Flower and Jade Market”
Reviewed August 4, 2008

I've been there in June 2008 on a very hot weekend.
You can find good way descriptions at the Tourist Maps, which are available at the entrances to the Taipei Metro.
The market is located directly under a highway and has something which can be described as an outdoor airconditioning done by artificial drizzle from above, which does a nice cooling on hot days. At the flower market you can watch (and buy) lots of orchids, bonsai, wooden sculptures and water plants. The other part is the jade market were you find a rich sortiment of jewellery, mostly made from gemstone especially jade but also others. You can also find antic coins, sculptures, customized chops, wooden figures and other things. It's a nice place for buying some little presents or some bigger ones (but then it is important to distinguish between real and fake gems and antiquities).
Not all of the salesmen speak english (especially the older ones), but they can always show you the price on a calculator, so you can decide if you want the item of interest or not.
I also spotted some of the salesmen playing some kind of chinese checkers. So if you want to buy something which may not be available on the common nightmarkets, I recommend the flower and jade market.
