“Horrible hotel! Infested by mosquitoes, great place to catch dengue fever. This hotel should be shut down. AVOID!”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

We booked 2 nights in that gloomy hotel. After checking in and reaching our room, both of us got already bitten by the mosquitoes at least a few times.

There is NO WIFI in the rooms, so we had to go in the so called "business center", this is rather a dark and freezing room with one computer. It was summer but the hotel and our room were freezing. All aircon is centralized so you have no way of controlling the temperature.
On top of that, the whole hotel and room are infested by mosquitoes. After 20mins in the hotel, we had at least 10 bites. This is not only painful but also scary with the high risk of Dengue fever in Taipei.

We decided to cancel our booking and leave the hotel. The hotel refuse to refund us any amount of the booking. They propose us to go to another of their hotel, we did and that hotel was worse.
After that they still didn't want to cancel our bookings.
For safety reasons, we decided to leave anyway and booked a room at Howard hotel instead.
Agoda who proceeded to the bookings, also was helpless at helping us get a refund so we paid 2 nights in each of the hotel.

This is how bad Deja Vu hotel is so don't waste your money there, spend a bit more and get a proper hotel.

The manager was unfriendly and rigid and was uncooperative to cancel our booking despite the 20 mosquitoes flying around his head, he claim that it is like that everywhere in taiwan. IT is not the case as we toured taiwan that week and no other hotel had mosquitos not was as freezing cold.

We lost a lot of money there but we hope our lessons will save yours and also prevent this hotel to make anymore victims of its bad service, poor hotel and feed their hungry mosquitoes.

This hotel is small and rather old from the exterior but rooms are cozy and comfortable. Location is great as it just across the metro station and airport shuttle bus stop. Walking distance to 2 Sogo departmental stores and Breeze Center. Many food options along the streets too. I have stayed there for 3 consecutive years while on vacation in Taipei and never had any problem with them. Housekeeping ladies are great and front desk are helpful. No worries if you speak Mandarin, can be a little challenging otherwise. My1st choice in Taipei for convenience and value!

(+)good location near to metro and airport bus station to and from. polite and helpful staffs. clean bed sheets. shopping and fine restuarants nearby. free wire internet in the room. free coffee all day at the business centre.
(-)i think it's kinda 'love hotel' that it's quite noisy at night time when couples check-in for fun. dirty bathroom. window with no view (my room, everytime). no wifi at the room, very inconvenience. maybe thin walls, can hear everyhing outside the room very clearly, really anoying.
if anyone have better suggestions nearby, please inform me. thank you!

1. This hotel is located 2-3min walk from ZhongXiao FuXing MRT stn on the Bannam line, which is just stns away taipei 101, Shilin, Ximending, all the highlights. U will appreciate the convenience of popping in/ out of the MRT to the hotel whenever u need a break in between your sight seeing.

2. It is next to 2 Sogo shopping malls and you are spoilt for shopping choices.

3. There are many local eateries behind the hotel, and you can get stuff from street food, to taiwanese dinners and Jap food as well, at reasonable prices.

4. The airport bus stop is just 2 min walk away, so if this is your choice, you can just take the airport bus to this hotel.

5. The rooms are dated, and I am happy with the cleanliness. Choose the new block if you want newer rooms. But the older block rooms comes with big jacuzzi tub or in-room sauna. I stayed in both blocks, and I hv no probs with the cleanliness. Some windows open to a brick wall, but again at this price, what do u expect?

6. The wifi only works in the business centre, so forget this hotel, if u need inroom wifi. They hv a self service laundry in the basement.

7. Lastly, the staff is helpful and polite, so if u hv issues, let them know, and they hv solved my issues before.

Room Tip: Choose the new block at high floors.

There is no doubt that the location of this hotel is its main asset. It is close to everything. Shopping, metro, nightlife, etc. However, that's about all that is good at this hotel.

The staffs were ok. They were polite and tried to be helpful. The property itself is VERY dated. The room we stayed in was probably remodeled 10 yrs ago. However the bathroom haven't been touched for probably over 20 years. From a glance the room seems 'clean'. However upon closer inspection, I wouldn't walk around barefooted. Not even in the bathroom. I showered with flip flops on. It might not be covered with dirt, but it sure appeared "dirty". Probably due to its age.

On a couple of occasions when in the hall way, you can hear 'extra curricular activity sounds' coming from rooms down the hall. What was really disgusting was used condom wrappers under the bed in our room.

Never got a good night of sleep there because the AC vent is blowing directly in your face through out the night. I had to tape a piece of paper over the vent to make it less annoying.

Price is reasonable, however I would much rather pay double and stay at a different hotel.

Lastly there is no wifi in the rooms. Only wifi that is available is in the business center on the first floor.

Overall, I would stay away from this place unless location is the most important to you or if its just a one night stay. For a single guy ready for some fun in Taipei this place would do but definitely not suitable for family and kids. Perhaps if they do a total update to this place, it can be quite the gem.

The front desk staff here threw coins at me and basically challenged me to a fight after I asked to use the phone 5 minutes after checking out. Great service. Believe there are better options in Taipei.

We stayed in Deja Vu Hotel 喬合大飯店 in Taipei city, Fuxing south road near to Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station from 14 to 19 Dec 2011. 台北市復興南路一段136號 (近捷運忠孝復興站).

As check in time is 2pm, we left our luggage in the hotel and ate at an eatery 胖子 behind the hotel as it was too early to check in when we reached the place at 1250pm. The servings are really big. we ordered 2 bowls of soup (single serving) and I must say 2 can actually share one bowl. We also bought the fried fritters from a street vendor nearby - "双胞胎" which is the same as the 蝴蝶炸" in Singapore - much softer and more fragrant. There are so many eatery and restaurant nearby - you will never go hungry! You must also get the pineapple tarts from the souvenir shop 伴手禮 which is also behind the hotel.

I would highly recommend the restaurants nearby which offers a la carte buffet for around NT400 - a real bargain and their soup base is superb. Most of them operate till 2am. There is a charcoal grill restaurant which I would also highly recommend nearby - just turn to the left and walk down the street - you will be attracted by the strong aroma. If you walk further down the same path - you will reach the Liaoning NIght Market.

The hotel is also next to a massage parlour - a real relief after a long day walk - NT900 for an hour massage and they operate 24hour.

We were given a room on the 9th floor and was pleasantly surprised that there is a steam room in our bathroom. A real blessing as the weather was rather cold - I switch it on to heat up the room before taking a bath - very relaxing! The hotel also provided the Lans cable which I can use to connect to the internet free. However, the speed is rather slow. The counter customer service is always very prompt to respond and helped us arranged for transport to and from the hotel to the airport as well as an 8hr personal tour on the 2nd day. There is free flow of coffee and tea in the lounge as well as a computer for surfing the internet free. Very considerate of them - the coffee (latte, Expresso or American) is nice too with the free snacks given.

There is also a shop nearby which we can buy a phone card which cost NT350 - something you must get as we used it for the whole trip with quite a number of calls back to Singapore. However they need to photocopy your passport and IC. There is also a 7-11 and convenient store nearby which operates 24hr.

The hotel is very near to Zhong Xiao Fuxing station which is really convenient as it is an interchange for the blue and brown line. Just turn to the right from the main entrance of the hotel and it is right at the corner of the road junction (3min). Taking the blue line (towards Nangang) we went to Houshanpi station and visited Wufenpi 五分埔-成衣街(a street with a lot of wholesalers for clothes and accessories) as well as the Raohe Night market 饒河街夜市nearby. Using the blue line (towards Yongning) you can reach Ximen MRT staiton (Ximenting), Longshan Temple MRT station (Long shan temple, 4 Night markets), one stop away - Zhongxiao Xinsheng (Guanghua digital mall - you can get electronic goods here cheaply). You can also go to taipei main station (which you can take the high speed train to taichung, kaoxiong etc, visit the 228 memorial park, president resident etc) or change to the red line and visit places such as Danshiu MRT station, Bei tou MRT station (hot spring), Jiantan MRT station (Shilin Night Market). The brown line takes us direct to the Zoo or the cable car (Mao Kong)

The location of the hotel is superb. The only cons are that the room is small and there is no room service for food as well as no safe box in the room. The breakfast is also limited in its variety. The only hiccup was a blackout on Sunday morning - maybe overloaded from Sat night. The price for the room for weekend is very high - I think it is very popular even with the locals who partied till very late and this is a convenient place to stay? But definitely we did not see any mosquito or encounter strange smell in our room. The service is good as the counter helped us to book a car to take us around Taiwan - NT3500 for 8 hour as well as airport transfers (NT1700 from the airport and NT1200 to the airport).
