Ate here on a Sunday at round 6.30pm. No queue and seated very quickly. Ordered sheng jian bao (8.5/10), xiao long bao (8/10) as well as some other dishes all of which were pretty good (definitely try the deep fried pai gu!). Service is kind of average but fine given how busy they are. Overall, a good and enjoyable dining experience and quality of the food was definitely some of the best we have had here in Taipei (so far!). Also given location in Yong Kang jie, there is lots to see and do after dinner. Would definitely recommend.

It is strange that Taiwan is famous for Shanghai cuisine. Even the world-famous Din Tai Fung originated from Taiwan instead of Shanghai.

Anyway, we decided to eat at Kao Chi rather than the famous Din Tai Fung, because we don't have Kao Chi in Malaysia.

We went to the branch near Zhongxiao fuxing station. Easily located, just down the main road from the station. Made use of the googlemap street view and found it easily.

Service is excellent, food is great especially the pan fried bun. Crispy on the outside but soft inside and even great when eat it with the chili. We also tried the dumplings, one of it is award-winning but is only okay for us, probably the taste is somewhat different from what we get here. We did not find xiao long pao any worse than Din Tai Fung, well at least compared to the one we had here.

We ordered pan fried dumpling, xiao long pao, 2 bowls of noodles, 2 dumplings and the bill only come up to NT800 for 4 persons. Its considered cheap and we were quite full.

Came here only because Din tai fung is full. Quite dissappointed. Xiao long bao is not good as the flour is very thick, more pricey than the before and will not be back. Had better ones in Malaysia

We were looking for the original Din Tai Fung experience but gave up on the second attempt when confronted with the chaos of crowds ordering on the footpath at a non peak time. Both time we had very good experiences around the corner on the advice of other reviewers in purely local restaurants, including this one as it is a strong food area. I am no expert but all my experience suggested the cooking was good and it was doing a brisk trade with middle of the road locals, a good guide. The staff were very friendly and handled us well given the inevitable language difficulties and our lack of familiarity. The atmosphere was busy but pleasant, I am mystified by the comments about value as we ended up paying $NT 300 per head for a full dining experience in a significant restaurant in a good location; it cant be compared to one of our lane way dining experiences which can be much cheaper.

We love Xiao Long Bao, so we asked the hotel staff for their recommendations. We had already tried Din Tai Fung so we wanted to try another restaurant. The concierge suggested Kao Chi and we're glad we went there. The quality and prices of the food were comparable to Din Tai Fung, but there were more food choices. The fried buns were delicious. Everything we ordered was delicious. But what we loved the most was the pork belly served with buns - yummy!

Service was fast. Wait wasn't too long considering there were 10 of us. We would certainly love to go back to Kao Chi next time we're in Taipei.
