It was my second time staying with Eight Elephants and was equally enjoyable. The hostel is in a great location and friendly, helpful staff. Would rank among the best hostels I've stayed at and recommend to anyone staying-in or traveling through Taipei.

A friend and I spent 3 nights at the 8 elephants Hostel a while back. We loved it. It's in a good location, easy to get with public transportation, close to a great night market. The bunk bed room was cozy, clean and the bed was comfy. The best is the people. We met a great mix of travelers and students. The atmosphere at the hostel is great. And the staff was super friendly and helpful. I would go back there anytime!

Eight Elephants has a super special vibe going on -- the staff is great, the travelers that pass through are friendly and excited to be in Taiwan, and the facilities are clean, comfortable and well maintained! I stayed in a few different hostels in Taipei and EE is for sure the best! Highly recommended :-).

Decoration in the house is fantastic and sufficient space to hang around!
Although most of time I can’t understand what they talk (not good at English), I feel people I meet there are friendly^^
However, need to consider budget for long stay.

if you ve been traveling through china and taiwan, you might know what i m talking about when i say that there are tons of boring hostels. people sitting next to each other staring on their mobile / tablet. they might be all clean and have good service blabla, but eight elephants is something special. it is cool.
people who used to work here or used to stay here keep coming back just to hang out. super cool (AND pretty too) chicks from staff (thank you soo much, especially gina, for helping me checking out how to go to wulai although i even didnt go there in the end..), seriously i love you guys. its also very central (guting station 10 minutes walk away). you definitely need to book in advance (about one week in advance, for weekends even more). and just in case you are unsure because of some of the bad references: its clean, they got ac, wifi works perfect, they have a guest computer, water dispenser, washing machine, 3 toilets and 3 bathrooms, i never seen anyone fighting about them, fridge.
if you want to meet interesting people with stories from all over the world, go there. if you are looking for a hotel like stay, then please, go to a hotel.

I stayed in EE for around two months in August and October last year, and will go back on the coming Christmas!

EE's location is wonderful to me - just 3 stations away from the Taipei Main Station, that I was able to catch my 830am train even I left the hostel at 8am and bought my breakfast on the way. EE is not located in any tourist spots but in the very local community. Local restaurants or fast food shops are what I like most, you can taste local Taiwanese food at a very reasonable price. There are a few convenient stores and a 24-hour supermarket nearby (and McDonald's of course...), that I could always grab some food or snacks at midnight. The hostel is also quite close to the Shida Night Market, within 15-min walk and you'll be there.

The staff crew of EE is also amazing - lovely and energetic young people who are really helpful! They hold Movie's Night weekly and sometimes they will bring guests to hiking, hot spring, food tour etc. using their own private time (not working time!), they just treat guests as friends! And you can meet quite a lot of other travelers here, I very much enjoyed the chatting, playing, and drinking time with other travelers. Never got bored or felt lonely there.

Another lovely thing is that the hostel separate showers, toilets, and sinks (all still in the same area tho), it does shorten the waiting time! Kitchen is also available, I often saw people cook or bake there.

I love this hostel and am going to return on Christmas!

Room Tip: The dormitories are next to the common area so it might be a little bit noisy at night (if someone...
