“Know the history to embrace the place”
Review of Confucius Temple

Confucius Temple
Reviewed December 12, 2012 via mobile

My Taiwan friend did a great job explaining the details of the artefacts and history of this place. With the knowledge in mind, we are better able to understand and feel the atmosphere and it makes a whole lot of difference.

Do try the sausage stuffed with stinky tofu opposite the temple. I wouldn't say it's yummy, it's more of an acquired taste. Walk a few steps down this shop and you will come across a tiny alley with a lovely cafe hidden in it. For the rounder figure, you have to walk sideways to get in.

This is a large, beautiful and serene temple.
A must see while you're in Tainan.
Make sure you have a look at the Great South Gate too. You need to walk down the road past the Flower Market (which is interesting in itself), to get to it.
Also - have a walk down the street with the stone arch opposite the entrance to the temple. On weekends it's full of crafts and eating stalls - lovely.

This temple is surrounded by modern buildings, shops, and restaurants. This temple is bigger than I thought. It has a lot of grass area and trees around it. It's more like a park, and the temple is in the middle of it. This temple represents the old building of Taiwan. So if you are planning to go to this area, then this is a must-see site for you. It also got a lot of shops and famous restaurants around it too.

Pleasant temple & park area. Park is open till 2100. Architecture will not "blow anyone away" but one can appreciate the historical significance. Don't overlook the "dud bomb" marker!
