Trip 20-22 Jan 2012 was not too great from weather point of view (foggy) but hotel staff made it really interesting and pleasant. We were able to spot few wild animals including rhino, crocodile, etc. and some birds and flora. The Flora and Bird guides were very smart and knowledgeable. Elephants are great too. Kudos to the elephant masters. On the whole a great trip the whole family enjoyed it.

Five friends and I stayed 3 nights at CJL in mid Nov. The facilities are fine (clean rooms, but not luxurious; good food, but not gourmet). The morning and evening elephant excursions to look for rhinos and tigers were excellent. We saw rhinos and heard a tiger roar, but didn't see one. There were excellent programs on Tigers and elephants. The resident naturalist was outstanding. He has worked at CJL for 24 of its 26 years and gave excellent explanations of everything during the nature walks. We also took the option of rafting on the Trisuli River on the way from Kathmadu to CJL. That was an excellent day and much more fun than driving the whole way. We all though CJL was an outstanding buy for the money, and I'll definitely go there again the next time I'm in Nepal.

The only caveat is that getting from Kathmandu to CJL and back is a bit flakey (but that's not CJL's fault). If you drive, the "highway" is a nightmare of stop-and-go truck traffic; allow twice the stated driving time. If you fly, don't count on flights being on time (anywhere in Nepal), and they may be cancelled in cloudy weather (the Barathpur airport appears to be VFR only).

The Chitwan Jungle Lodge is truly and wonderful experience for anyone. The lodge feels wonderfully remote, a welcome change if coming from the crowded smoggy streets of Kathmandu. The rooms are clean the beds comfortable. I was a single traveler and they were very happy to accommodate me in every way. The activities are perfectly spaced and appeal to a wide range of people. Bathing with elephants was my favorite! The food is good and the staff very friendly. A must do if visiting Nepal!

Brilliant place particularly because of the staff who are very important on this sort of trip. Harka the naturalist is incredibly knowledgeable and charming and is very dedicated to the welfare of the forest and its wildlife. Santo the manager goes all out to make your stay as pleasant as possible and is really good company and is a dedicated conservationist. The foot safari feels like a really wild experience!

Located within the eastern part of the Park, the Jungle Lodge certainly feels remote. Rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. Even on sunny days, the shower water temperature is cool. Lodge facilities feel a little tired. Food generally good and service from lodge staff very attentive and nature guides were wonderful company. Biggest disappointment is that Lodge manager denied us a third elephant safari (on our 3 night package) despite this being included in the joining letter sent from the Kathmandu office. When we queried this, we were told that we needed to pay the manager for a further ride (US$15 each).

Room Tip: Specify double bed if you want one. Head torch very useful.

Had a wonderful stay at Chitwan Jungle Lodge which is located inside the national park. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable. There is electricity provided in 2 hour slots; early morning, lunch time and evening - timed to coincide with activities. A kerosene lamp is provided in the evening. We had hot water for our showers (although it smelt slightly of metal from the pipes).

The activities were well organised and interesting. We explored the jungle on foot on a nature and bird watching walk, by elephant and in a dugout canoe. We did 2 elephant safaris and saw rhino, deer, monkeys, crocodile and many birds. The elusive tiger remained hidden however, on the nature walk there was evidence of one close by. Binoculars are shared between the group on the walks. If your a keen nature lover i'd recommend you bring your own pair.

The staff were knowledgable, helpful and friendly. Meals were delicious and plentiful.
