“Great Location”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

I stayed here in February 2013 for two nights as part of a tour. The hotel is a lovely respite from the madness of Kathmandu and a welcomed sight after the long bus journey.

The location is great and the service was friendly and with a smile. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast supplied is adequate but could be a bit better. All in all this is a good hotel in a beautiful part of Nepal. I would stay here again.

Stayed at the Barahi for 2 nights in May, was a very pleasant stay!

Other than the usual clean rooms, polite and helpful staff, etc.:

(+) 24 hours electricity despite the loadshedding
(+) very nice staff who helped me get a surprise birthday cake for my brother, complete with a secret code to bring up the cake to the room
(+) very natural atmosphere with birds chirping everywhere
(+) very close the lakeside, less than 2 minutes walk
(+) great view of the city and mountains and hills

(-) when it rained, the path to the hotel front desk was submerged in water, not so much, but enough so that you couldn't wear shoes
(-) free WiFi only at the restaurant which is understandable, but the connection wasn't stable

FYI, we stayed in room #604, and try out the Nasi Goreng

Room Tip: There are no elevators, so think twice before booking a top level room (they have 6 floors including...

I've had 3 good nights' rest since arriving in Pokhara after a long travel around Annapurna trek. The hotel is tucked away in a big compound from Lakeside's main street, a plus point for tourists who do not want to be bothered by music bars that open late. The service staff were absolutely sweet and patient. I had forgotten about my umbrella on a rainy evening and one of them just pops out of nowhere offering shelter to my next destination (the lobby). I had booked a triple room and by the time of arrival, everything was ready and neat. It really meant a lot cos I had spent some time in other Nepalese hotels just waiting for the extra beds to be set up. Bar is open for indoor guest 24 hour Near the Swimming.Definitely worth its price.

Room Tip: new building mountain facing room is excellent and you can see sunrise from your window

The Hotel Barahi is close to the lake and used by tour groups, amongst others, so it must be pretty good. The rooms are clean if a little dark, and the lack of a lift can mean some steady stair climbing to get to your room. There's free, no quibble wifi in the restaurant and breakfast area, and a smallish pool (perfectly adequate), as well as a small shop. The staff are friendly and willing to help and the rooms are clean and serviced, with balconies (although views vary!). No safe in mine though, which would have been a helpful addition.

Good breakfasts - an omelette station and buffet and you can sit outside (although seating is a bit limited). All in all a good standard tourist hotel i.e. clean, safe, convenient - what more do you want?

Hotel Barahi in Pokhara is the epitome of what the tourism industry in Nepal can achieve. Pokhara, in general, is slightly touristy, but for the most part, it is still developing and trying to compete among much larger cultural and natural destinations in Asia. Hotel Barahi is a great example of what this industry can truly achieve, and more importantly, how that can improve the lives of the Nepalis living and working in the city.

The English speaking staff are friendly and the service is fast and efficient. If me or my girlfriend had any problems or questions they were always prompt to assist us. The room designs were of exceptionally high quality and we never had any problems with the electricity cutoff -- they have their own generator -- or the lack of hot water that plagues many hotels in Nepal.

Hotel Barahi is one of the more upscale hotels in Pokhara and the price reflects this reality, but for the quality of service and stellar amenities the hotel provides makes the cost well worth it. I doubt you'll find hippies at the hotel, which, depending on your perspective on life, can be a good or bad thing.

Pokhara is a beautiful city and I really believe they can turn the city into a well-known tourist destination. They have some difficulties ahead of them for sure, but, with hotels like Hotel Barahi spearheading the development effort, Pokhara can rise and compete with some of the heaviest hitting locations in Asia.

I was surprised to see that this restaurant in a so called 4 star hotel is a tourist trap!! At the Barahi hotel /Pokhara Flavors restaurant, they double charged us on all the alcoholic beverages we had! The manager reply was: "Sir, when you asked for a glass of Rhum, I thought you wanted a double!" Even though the glasses he brought were not doubles, he charged us as if they were double! - not a great review for a high end Hotel / Restaurant!! I liked though the ethnic cultural dance show they had (this is why my rating is 2 over 5 and not 1 over 5)

Hotel Barahi is conveniently located close to the lake and main tourist street. 2 Minute walk to Moondance Cafe and shops. The outside garden and pool are nice but the pool gets busy with noisy kids.
Rooms are very basic and let's just say I wouldn't walk on the carpet barefoot. Curtains are gross but the sheets and towels were clean. Curtains actually fell off the broken rod when I tried opening them. The Wifi was down the entire time and the power goes out at night. They provide a candle and matches but having a flash light nearby is recommended, since you never really now when you will lose power in Nepal.
No safe in the rooms.
Birds singing in the morning was nice.
Breakfast buffet was basic but pretty good. Not as expansive as other hotels we stayed at. They did have my beloved porridge and provided honey for our bread upon request (Nepali fruit jam is not great).
