“Visit Hindu Temple in Pokhara”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

The Holy Barahi Temple is situated on an island of Phewa lake. Barahi is one of the Asta matrikas, a group eight mother goddesses in the Hindu religion. With the head of a sow, Barahi is the shakti (feminine energy, or sometimes, consort) of Baraha, the boar incarnation of the god Vishnu. In Nepal, she is called Barahi. Varahi is worshipped by all the three major schools of Hinduism: Shaktism (goddess worship), Shaivism (followers of the god Shiva) and Vaishnavism (devotion to Vishnu). To visit this temple it needs few minutes of boating.

“Not My Favorite Activity”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Yes, its an important Temple in the Pokhara area, so if you're into Temples by all means go see it. But it's also a tourist trap and it feels like that too. I hear they do animal sacrifices there on festivals and some weekends, which are also open to the public.

“Great sightseeing”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

We hired a boat from Gauirghat pier, near our hotel and slowly made our way upto this small island in the middle of the lake. It was full of people paying their respect to the local deity in a very colorful manner.

“Nice but...”

Nice little island in the middle of the lake. You can hire a boat and reach it easily. There is lots of pigeons though, and the area they are kept is very dirty. Keep far and you'll enjoy the rest.
