Owner description: Parahawking is paragliding with a trained bird of prey. It was pioneered in Pokhara, Nepal by renowned bird trainer and paraglider, Scott Mason. Rescued and rehabilitated raptors such as Egyptian Vultures are trained as part of an award winning enrichment program, to fly with paragliders and, by using their incredible ability to conserve energy, can guide the paragliders to the best thermals. They will then land on the passengers gloved hand for an inflight reward. Parahawking is a perfect mix of adventure, eco-tourism and conservation. A Parahawking Tandem Experience is more than just a paragliding flight with a trained bird, it's an education into vultures and the problems they face in the wild. Proceeds from Parahawking tandem flights go directly towards vulture conservation projects in Nepal.

This was one of the wishes I had at my bucket list... well, even if my expectations were already high I was very impressed. Scott (and Anita) were so kind. The birds are appropriately trained and everyone is relaxed enough to make this experience a very relaxing one to enjoy with full sense of control... Rather than something to tell, this is something to do!. breathtaking views and fantastic pics... I did it in Alicante (Spain) and that was amazing... therefore Pokhara must be just perfect!

Scott Mason's passion and knowledge along with his friendly persona make him an inspiring host at Maya Devi. You can't help but deeply feel the passion of this man. His team are exceptionally professional and the 'bird-first' mentality is testament to the conservation focus rather than tourism business. A flight with these beautiful birds of prey truly is magical and unbelievable. A bird of prey landing on your hand, taking meat from your loose fist - it's simply amazing that it is even possible and this is repeated many times during the flight and all professionally captured on tons of photos and video! All this in beautiful Nepal against a backdrop of stunning mountain scenery. What more could you possibly want.

One of humankind's oldest's dreams come true: to fly with birds!! I've gone parahawking with Scott Mason about 5 times and I'm always in a state of disbelief up there in the sky. I can't believe this is possible. A definite "bucket-list" item!

I have never wanted to paraglide or parachute but when I saw this I just knew I had to do it and it was the most amazing experience. Scott and his team are very professional but also down to earth and so friendly. Imagine falconry but in the sky - a double whammy! Watching Bob (or Kevin) land on your arm and then fall away beneath you is wonderful. The scenery is sensational and coming into land over the lake and infront of Maya Devi is superb. Shankar and Duma, our pilots, were brilliant and to see Bob, an Egyptian Vulture, in the freedom of the skies was so exciting. A must do experience!

Our parahawking experience was one of our highlights of our trip to Nepal (which is saying something since this country is full of so much beauty and wonder!) There are a lot of paragliders in the sky over Pokhara but only a few have the thrill of gliding with a trained bird of prey! The idea is really quite brilliant and the way the team at Maya Devi work together makes for an all around fantastic experience.
We stayed out at Maya Devi village and took advantage of their three night paragliding package which I highly recommend. Everyone out at the village was super friendly and helpful and the location makes a very refreshing change from the bustle of Pokhara's tourist area. We had plenty of time to go for walks, watch the birds, rent boats on the lake and just enjoy the beautiful scenery. Plus they even invited us for Thanksgiving Dinner!
Honestly, paragliding is an amazing experience - one of those things you can talk about for a long time and people are always interested to hear more. If you are looking for one interesting, exciting and memorable experience in your travels, this is it!
