“What a find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2011

We chose this hotel on the strength of the reviews and photos on TA. We were not disappointed ! The accomodation was charming and very clean with stunning views of the lake and mountains. We thought the staff were lovely and the food was simply delicious ( choice of Continental, Indian and Chinese) The grounds were beautiful and well kept, although very steep so not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.
We travelled by air from Kathmandhu as we felt this was a better option than travelling by road. There are several airlines who operate flights to Pokhara, it is then a short drive to Begnas with the option of travelling the last half hour by rowing boat, which we highly recommend. It is worth mentioning that on departure from KTM airport, pay your 200 rupees cash departure tax BEFORE joining the queue for check-in, also ask for a seat on the right hand side of the aircraft to get the best view of the mountains.
All in all a wonderful experience!

Room Tip: Rooms higher up the hill side have slightly better views.

Definitely up market and worth a visit, beautifully laid out Chalets overlooking the lake on one side and the mountains on the other. Excellent Bar, Restaurant and interesting pool. European standards all around.

We don't think that Begnas is the best place to stay in Pokhara. The main reason is that it is not in Pokhara, errrr, it's in Begnas.....so think about staying here if you are only interested in trekking in the surrounding countryside and having a base to relax in. Don't if you imagine yourself wandering around Pokhara town a lot, young want to have a choice of places to eat at in the evening or you need to be close to the town because of an early start: you need to allow an hour to walk up to the road above the hotel and then get a cab to Pokhara.

As for the hotel itself....well, it looks nice enough and the setting above Begnas Lake is genuinely attractive. But it is severely let down by service that is sometimes surly, sometimes inept and occasionally both. it's never good when you arrive at a hotel and they don't seem to know who you are. They haven't set the room out in the way you've asked them to in about 20 emails. In the restaurant the waiters were pretty clueless. The management were disappointingly reluctant to provide really good advice on local treks. It all felt like it was held together with sticky tape.

In some places this wouldn't matter, but for the considerable amount of extra cash you pay to stay in Begnas, you expect better. We were particularly disappointed by the meals having read about how great they were in other reviews. We thought that were just okay. They were certainly expensive once an array of different taxes were added to them. And once we'd visited Pokhara we were convinced that there would have been better, cheaper options there both for rooms and meals.

Room Tip: Lots of climbing to and from rooms wherever you are. Aim to go nearer to the main building if you f...

This is the best place to stay in Pokhara. It is on the much quieter Begnas Lake. There are no shops around and just the resort and it is a beautiful new clean resort. Not just clean by Nepali standards but truly clean! The weather was not cooperating for us so we didn't get to see the views unfortunately. But we had a lovely 2 nights here. My husband and I both had a general massage here, which is much like most of the massages in India/ Nepal. I also had the medicated steam bath which was awesome, just what I needed. My only complaint would be that the food is a bit expensive for what you get, but the 2 for one happy hour more than makes up for it. Every room has a view of the lake. And even in the misty rainy weather it is beautiful and serene. A great place to unwind after a trek or crazy Kathmandu!

Unfortunately the weather was poor during my stay so the Himalayas were hidden by fog throughout and there was some rain too which hampered my plans. But the staff and manager were so accommodating and helpful, allowing me to rearrange my plans and cut my stay short. The resort is lovely, rooms clean, food great, staff are so polite (I disagree with a previous poster that their English was poor), happy hour is a great idea (but i wouldnt say drinks are particularly expensive normally given the logistics involved) and I'm sure the views and walks are normally fantastic. I'd definitely recommend it if you're keen on exploring, but there isn't much to do if the weather is bad - I was glad to have brought plenty of books with me since it is a bit out the way so you can't just 'pop into town'!

Lovely boat trip being rowed to the hotel , if you can try to get a bungalow higher on the hillside , the views are fantastic of the himalayas .Simple but comfortable rooms ,good food -but we found the a la carte significantly better value and quality than the buffet .Lovely clean small pool complete with frogs ! Easy entry into the lake for swimming and fantastiic local walks . For us the highlight was the manager who could not have ben more helpful and caring , especially smoothing the way for our onward journey .

This place is incredible. There is nothing it does not excel at - location, service, atmosphere, rooms and food were all lovely. We woke up every morning with yoga at sunrise, and watched the light spill over the Himalayas which towered above our own private Lake Begnas. We biked around the lakes (including the nearby Rupa Tal), went boating, and swam in the warm lakewater. The staff are used to providing high service standards, are keen to help, and are always looking to improve the resort. But we can't think of many ways to make it better. Just keep it as it is - unique.
