We stayed at Ganesh Himal for 2 nights at the end of March and found it as a very welcoming and well located place to explore the centre of Kathmandu.

Although we didn't get a free taxi pick up from the airport due to the late arrival, there was a porter at reception after midnight who checked us in without any delays. The room was quite big, but with outdated furniture and decor, 2 windows, decent size bathroom/toilet and quite comfortable bed. The bedding could have been a little fresher and I hope management of the hotel will take a note of this comment.

Two of the main selling points of this hotel are its location and a peaceful and charming garden with shaded tables and chairs. There is a good choice of reasonably priced food on the menu and you can eat outside in that garden surrounded by flowers, butterflies and singing birds. Just be prepared to wait for your food for a little longer than you have probably got used to, but when it arrives - you won't be disappointed! :-)

Reception staff are very helpful and efficient. We have been given very clear guidance for some major nearby sites and various restaurants, located within minutes walk from the hotel. You can also change cash at reception and their rates match other places we've seen across Nepal.

Although it is dark evenings in most parts of the Nepal due to the electricity shortage, we never felt any danger in Thamel and could easily say it is safe to get to the hotel in the dark on foot.

Taking into consideration the 'value for money' factor, I would say it's a great place to stay for a few nights if you wish to explore the sights of central Kathmandu.

This hotel stayed in a walking distance to Thamel and Durbar Square. The free airport pick-up was so nice. When we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed by smiling staffs and a cool fruit juice! We could also leave our luggage for weeks after check-out to go trekking. The manager was a supportive man, but the air ticket booking service were a bit pricey than in other tourist office. Our room was on the third floor so there was no wifi in room. Overall we have a nice stay here and would recommend this hotel.

The backyard of this Hotel is a Oasis in the "mess" of the city. It is a very pleasant place to enjoy a late afternoon drink or dinner.
The hotel itself is nicely taken care, with traditional decorative items. The rooms are a bit old-fashion but they are clean. The best about this hotel is perhaps the food, breakfast is not included, but there is a great menu to chose all day long. Everything i had here (breakfast or dinner) was always very delicious.
The location of the hotel is also very good, half way from Tamel to Durban Square, but in a more quiet street.
There is free Wi-Fi in the hotel.
The hotel offers airport pick-up for free.

The hotel is located down a side street a 5 min walk from Thamel. We stayed in a super deluxe room & it was large with TV, heater, lockable cupboard & hot water when the power is on. The power is out a lot but we were still able to get up early 2 mornings in a row using a torch to make it to the mountain flight and this was no bother at all. The breakfast selection is excellent although not included in the price. There is unlimited hot (refill thermos in room) & cold water (refill your water bottle) available. There is a lovely garden area which is very pleasant to sit in and a nice touch everywhere are the flowering potted plants. The staff are extremely helpful in organising anything you require for your Nepal visit and whilst you are away they have a very large luggage storage room. We stayed here twice during our visit to Nepal.

Located just outside the border of Thamel (a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference) Hotel Ganesh was a fine place to stay. The room was comfortable, internet connectivity was good and there was plenty of hot water.

They had a very nice garden for the restaurant (just had tea so can't comment on the food) which is a really nice extra for being in the middle of the city.

The downside was it was a bit noisy; I could hear the clink of dishes and restaurant staff chatter from my room window.

The best thing about this hotel is its location between Thamel and Durbar Square. For the intrepid, Swayubanath is even walkable. The rooms are fine, restaurant is good and the garden is lovely.

While it may seem like a bargain there are cheaper rooms of equal quality to be had all over Kathmandu. While the staff is very helpful, you get the impression after a couple of days that they have their hand in your pocket constantly. Want a taxi? Pay us and we'll arrange it! Want this? Pay us! Want that? Pay us again! What they want is not to help you but to keep getting a commission on every "service" they provide. Walk 10 meters from the hotel and you can have 4 taxis for less than hotel will charge you.

Like I said, it's fine, but don't be afraid to look elsewhere. You won't be missing the best deal in town.
